Feature-Based Characterisation of Turned Surface Topography with Suppression of High-Frequency Measurement Errors

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Errors that occur when surface topography is measured and analysed can be classified depending on the type of surface studied. Many types of surface topographies are considered when frequency-based errors are studied.

Effect of Surface Topography on Friction and Transfer Layer during Sliding

open access: yesTribology Online, 2008
Surface topography influences friction and transfer layer formation during sliding. In the present investigation, various kinds of surface topography were produced on steel plates.

Nail Surface Topography and Onychochronobiology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Nail surface changes are observed during aging and in some chronic inflammatory dermatoses. Descriptive terms are commonly used, but quantitative analytic measurements are welcome to increase sensitivity, precision, and reproducibility of observations. Bioinstrumentation, particularly optical profilometry, allows both static and repetitive assessments ...

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

The method of surface topography in orthopaedic clinical practice and research [PDF]

open access: yesEpistīmonika Chronika, 2017
Over the past five decades multiple systems have been developed for the surface topography, used in the clinical evaluation of spinal deformities, particularly in idiopathic scoliosis.

Heterotropic regulation and negative homotropic cooperativity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We identified a structural module common to some proteins that couple negative cooperativity with heterotropic regulation, two features that rarely coexist. These proteins are ring‐like and present an ordered asymmetry whereby noncontacting subunits are symmetric, and their tertiary structure differs from that of contacting subunits.

Natural Frequencies of Levodopa‐Induced Dyskinesia in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Abnormal involuntary movements, known as dyskinesias, are common complications of levodopa treatment in patients with Parkinson's disease and can significantly impair quality of life. The underlying pathophysiology remains unclear, and current therapeutic options are limited.

Cracking the Code: Which Ocular Symptoms Predict Dry Eye Signs? Insights From a Large International Sicca Registry

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The study aimed to identify symptom‐based predictors of dry eye disease (DED) signs in the Sjögren's International Collaborative Clinical Alliance (SICCA) cohort. Methods We performed a retrospective analysis examining 16 ocular symptoms (most graded 0–4) and artificial tear (AT) use (graded 0–3) as predictors of DED signs (abnormal ocular ...

Effect of micro blasting process parameters on 3D surface topography and surface properties of zirconia (Y‐TZP) ceramics

open access: yesEngineering Reports, 2021
The present study aims to examine the effects of operational parameters on the surface topography and wear mechanisms of monolithic and conventional yttria‐stabilized zirconia (Y‐TZP) ceramics in the micro blasting process, performed under various ...
