Microstructural Evolution within the Interphase between Hardening Overlay and Existing Concrete Substrates

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2017
This article presents the microstructural evolution within the interphase between a hardening overlay made of cement mortar and an existing concrete substrate.

Reducing intrinsic loss in superconducting resonators by surface treatment and deep etching of silicon substrates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present microwave-frequency NbTiN resonators on silicon, systematically achieving internal quality factors above 1 M in the quantum regime. We use two techniques to reduce losses associated with two-level systems: an additional substrate surface ...

A numerical investigation into the correction algorithms for SPH method in modeling violent free surface flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A quantitative comparison of the usual and recent numerical treatments which are applied to the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method are presented together with a new free-surface treatment.

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Biocompatible implant surface treatments

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dental Research, 2012
Surface plays a crucial role in biological interactions. Surface treatments have been applied to metallic biomaterials in order to improve their wear properties, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility. A systematic review was performed on studies investigating the effects of implant surface treatments on biocompatibility. We searched the literature

Surface Influence on Flux Penetration into HTS Bulks

open access: yes, 1999
The influence of surface treatment on AC loss in melt-processed quasi-single crystal HTS was investigated with resonance oscillations technique. We have found that amplitude dependencies of AC loss on magnetic field amplitude become rather complicated ...

Cell density–dependent nuclear‐cytoplasmic shuttling of SETDB1 integrates with Hippo signaling to regulate YAP1‐mediated transcription

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At low cell density, SETDB1 and YAP1 accumulate in the nucleus. As cell density increases, the Hippo pathway is gradually activated, and SETDB1 is associated with increased YAP1 phosphorylation. At high cell density, phosphorylated YAP1 is sequestered in the cytoplasm, while SETDB1 becomes polyubiquitinated and degraded by the ubiquitin–proteasome ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

A short review of modification techniques for titanium dental implant surfaces

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering
In the world of dental implants, the essential determinant of success lies in the phenomenon of osseointegration, wherein titanium implants exhibit the ability for robust integration with the surrounding bone and tissue.
