Determining the Shallow Surface Velocity at the Apollo 17 Landing Site [PDF]

open access: yes
Many studies have been performed to determine the shallow surface velocity model at the Apollo 17 landing site. The Lunar Seismic Profiling Experiment (LSPE) had both an active component with eight explosive packages (EPs) and a passive experiment ...

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Exploring coupling effects of rainfall and surface roughness on the sheet flow velocity

open access: yesInternational Soil and Water Conservation Research
Accurately describing the path of sheet flow (SF) is crucial in soil erosion. Raindrop impact and underlying surface conditions can affect the SF velocity by changing the velocity profile.

Well-posedness for the classical Stefan problem and the zero surface tension limit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We develop a framework for a unified treatment of well-posedness for the Stefan problem with or without surface tension. In the absence of surface tension, we establish well-posedness in Sobolev spaces for the classical Stefan problem. We introduce a new

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...

Near surface shear wave velocity in Bucharest, Romania [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2008
Bucharest, the capital of Romania with nearly 2 1/2 million inhabitants, is endangered by the strong earthquakes in the Vrancea seismic zone. To obtain information on the near surface shear-wave velocity Vs structure and to improve the

Oxide‐Free Titanium Coatings by Wire Arc Spraying in a Silane‐Doped Inert Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A silane‐doped argon atmosphere enables the production of oxide‐free titanium coatings via twin‐wire arc spraying at ambient pressure. This innovative approach eliminates residual oxygen, creating process conditions that prevent oxidation and nitride formation.

Monitoring glacier surface velocity in Zanskar Valley, India: Insights from DInSAR-based 2D velocity estimation

open access: yesResults in Earth Sciences
Glacier surface velocity plays a crucial role in understanding glacier dynamics, climate change impacts, and water resource management. In this study, Differential Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (DInSAR) and geoinformatics techniques were ...
