On the boundedness of slc surfaces of general type

open access: yesANNALI SCUOLA NORMALE SUPERIORE - CLASSE DI SCIENZE, 2019
The purpose of this note is to give a new proof of Alexeev's boundedness result for stable surfaces which is independent of the base field and to highlight some important consequences of this result.

Syzygies of surfaces of general type [PDF]

open access: yesGeometriae Dedicata, 2012
We prove new results on projective normality, normal presentation and higher syzygies for a surface of general type $X$ embedded by adjoint line bundles $L_r = K + rB$, where $B$ is a base point free, ample line bundle. Our main results determine the $r$ for which $L_r$ has $N_p$ property.

On the Degree of the Canonical Map of a Surface of General Type

open access: yes, 2023
Let X be a minimal complex surface of general type such that its image via the canonical map is a surface; we denote by d the degree of the canonical map. In this expository work, first of all we recall the known possibilities for the canonical image and for d when the canonical map is not birational, which are quite a few, and then we consider the ...

ANOVA Analysis and L9 Taguchi Design for Examination of Flat Slide Burnishing of Unalloyed Structural Carbon Steel

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing, 2023
Diamond burnishing is a finishing precision machining that is often used to improve the quality characteristics of previously machined surfaces. With its help, the surface roughness can be reduced, the surface hardness can be increased, and the tensile ...

Bulk reconstruction of AdS d+1 metrics and developing kinematic space

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
The metrics of the global, Poincaré, and Rindler AdS d+1 are explicitly reconstructed with given lightcone cuts. We first compute the metric up to a conformal factor with the lightcone cuts method introduced by Engelhardt and Horowitz.

Some New Surfaces of General Type [PDF]

open access: yesTokyo Journal of Mathematics, 1994
In part I, the author constructs examples of surfaces of general type with positive topological indices, which are cyclic branched coverings of elliptic modular surfaces of level \(N\) ramified over the \(N^2\) sections giving the level structure. In part II he constructs examples of surfaces of general type with \(p_g = 0\), which are quotients of ...

Geometric Study of Marginally Trapped Surfaces in Space Forms and Robertson-Walker Spacetimes—An Overview

open access: yesAxioms, 2020
A marginally trapped surface in a spacetime is a Riemannian surface whose mean curvature vector is lightlike at every point. In this paper we give an up-to-date overview of the differential geometric study of these surfaces in Minkowski, de Sitter, anti ...

Time-dependent effect of intense capsule-coffee and bleaching on the color of resin-infiltrated enamel white spot lesions: an in vitro study [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2022
Background and Objectives White spot lesions (WSLs) are a common problem that can be conservatively managed by resin infiltration. Consumption of dark beverages such as coffee causes staining of dental hard tissues, which can deteriorate the esthetic ...
