To Surge or Not to Surge

2021
This chapter introduces the concept of loss aversion to explain why it took the U.S. government so long to change their strategy. Loss aversion created the desire to preserve perceived gains and resist changes in strategy that could place them at risk – even as the cost of the current policy was high, and its prospects of success were low.

Surge in SME surge in economy - an explorative analysis

International Journal of Economics and Business Research, 2014
This study directed towards investigating the possible linkage between the growth in SME sector and economic growth and development. Qualitative and explorative research work was carried out to detect the key underlying variables exist between the constructs. Thorough review of literature reveals quite significant and well-established relationship does

Reasons for Centrifugal Compressor Surging and Surge Control

Journal of Engineering for Power, 1979
The paper discusses conventional modes of presenting axial and radial compressor operating envelopes and the conditions under which changes of factors such as the polytropic index n and the Reynolds number Re are negligible. It is shown on the basis of operating envelopes under what conditions compressors will surge (erratic flow conditions or stalling)

Evaluation of Surge Degradation of Metal Oxide Surge Arrester

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1982
The surge degradation of zinc oxide elements under a constant ac stress is investigated experimentally. The results are summed up in a set of formulae and figures from which the degradation of any given condition can be evaluated. The increase ratio of leakage current from the initial value is successfully sed as the indicator of degradation of ...

Glacier Surges

2015
Surge-type glaciers periodically undergo large flow acceleration after extended quiescent phases of slow movement, usually accompanied by terminus advance. Such glaciers are relatively rare but occur in many of the world's glacierized areas. High water pressures and extreme basal sliding are obvious characteristics but key questions concerning this ...

A Surge of Oceanographies

Geographical Review, 1965
T HE pathological preoccupation with outer space that is currently afflicting us has not blinded a certain small segment of the scientific community to other problems: the association of sciences called "oceanography" is booming. Physical oceanography, the founding of which as a discipline is usually traced to the publication by Matthew Fontaine Maury ...

Waterhammer, Surge Tanks and Open Channel Surge

1969
In the following pages we deal with some aspects of hydraulic transients— the variations of flow and pressure which occur when one steady state changes to another steady state.
