‘Where are the adults?’: Troubling child‐activism and children's political participation

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Children's political participation is a well‐established theme in childhood studies. In this article we offer an original account of child activism that takes into account the entangled and emergent aspect of children as activists. We begin with a historical and a conceptual review, noting the importance of mid‐20th century developments such ...

Condition Assessment of Metal Oxide Surge Arrester Based on Multi-Layer SVM Classifier

open access: yesIranian Journal of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2015
This paper introduces the indicators for surge arrester condition assessment based on the leakage current analysis. Maximum amplitude of fundamental harmonic of the resistive leakage current, maximum amplitude of third harmonic of the resistive leakage ...

Arrested Cracks in Nonlinear Lattice Models of Brittle Fracture [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We generalize lattice models of brittle fracture to arbitrary nonlinear force laws and study the existence of arrested semi-infinite cracks. Unlike what is seen in the discontinuous case studied to date, the range in driving displacement for which these arrested cracks exist is very small.

Pareto in Prison

open access: yesBehavioral Sciences &the Law, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Pareto principle is based on the concept that roughly 80% of outcomes are generated by 20% of inputs, efforts, or contributors within a group. Using a national sample of U.S. prison inmates, we examined various percentile rankings of self‐reported institutional misconduct to determine how much disorder is created behind bars by the most ...

Comprehensive Analysis of Transient Overvoltage Phenomena for Metal-Oxide Varistor Surge Arrester in LCC-HVDC Transmission System with Special Protection Scheme

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
This paper proposes a systematic and deterministic method for metal-oxide varistor (MOV) surge arrester selection based on the comprehensive analysis in line-commutated converter (LCC)-based high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems.

A METHOD OF DETERMINING THE ABILITY OF THE ARRESTER TO ABSORB ENERGY WITHOUT BREAKING THE HEAT BALANCE

open access: yesElectrical engineering & Electromechanics, 2015
Purpose. The aim of this study is to obtain a method for determining the capacity surge arrester nonlinear absorb energy without breaking the heat balance in modes of long-term application of operating voltage, which allows for analysis of their work in ...

STUDY ON SURGE ARRESTER PERFORMANCE DUE TO LIGHTNING STROKE IN 20 KV DISTRIBUTION LINES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Abstrak Electric energy has been transmiting from power station to end user with transmission and distribution lines. Lightning strokes are problems that occure in transmission and distribution lines and make them fault when the electric energy were ...

Real‐Time Implementation of Unknown Input Observer‐Based State and Unknown Disturbance Estimation for Series Active Filters

open access: yesInternational Journal of Circuit Theory and Applications, EarlyView.
For the series active filter (SAF), a combined controller and observer scheme is proposed. Two controllers—state feedback (SFB) and linear quadratic regulator (LQR)—along with state observers, including the Luenberger observer (LO), proportional–integral observer (PIO), and unknown input observer (UIO), have been designed.
