Coronary artery grafting in infants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with cardiac vale repair is an uncommon surgery in infants. CABG is technically demanding in infants due to the small size not only of the coronary arteries but also the potential graft arteries.

Simple new risk score model for adult cardiac extracorporeal membrane oxygenation: simple cardiac ECMO score. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: Although the use of cardiac extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is increasing in adult patients, the field lacks understanding of associated risk factors. While standard intensive care unit risk scores such as SAPS II (simplified acute

Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor presenting as mitral stenosis: case report and literature review

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery
Primary cardiac neurogenic tumors are rare, accounting for 5%-10% of all malignant soft tissue tumors. Among these, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST) are particularly uncommon as primary cardiac tumors.

Assembly of Cell‐Seeded 3D Printed Hydrogel Modules with Perfusable Channel Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Macroscale assembly was utilized to prepare perfusable tissue constructs from individually 3D printed hydrogel modules with embedded branched channel networks and port arrays for cell seeding. Novel multi‐material bioreactors were fabricated to facilitate the gluing of individual modules and the perfusion culture of assembled modular constructs seeded ...

MXene/PEDOT Functional Coatings on Flexible Microelectrode Arrays for Multianalyte In Vivo Neurochemical Sensing and Electrophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A MXene/PEDOT coating enables multimodal functionality and dual‐analyte detection of dopamine and serotonin in flexible microelectrode arrays while enhancing electrophysiological recording quality. The anti‐fouling, low‐impedance interface overcomes key limitations of conventional coatings, providing a robust and versatile platform to investigate the ...

Comparison of short- and long-term outcomes between isolated and concomitant tricuspid valve surgery

open access: yesThe Cardiothoracic Surgeon
Background Accurate reflections of long-term outcomes of isolated tricuspid valve surgery are underreported in the literature. Most published cohort studies consisted of patients receiving tricuspid valve surgery concomitant with left-sided procedures ...

Correction to: Exclusive percutaneous peripheral veno-arterial ECMO with distal reperfusion of homolateral limb

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2018
The original article [1] contains an error whereby all authors’ names are mistakenly inverted; this was an error mistakenly carried forward by the production team that handled this article, and thus was not the fault of the authors.

Computational Modeling Meets 3D Bioprinting: Emerging Synergies in Cardiovascular Disease Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Emerging advances in three‐dimensional bioprinting and computational modeling are reshaping cardiovascular (CV) research by enabling more realistic, patient‐specific tissue platforms. This review surveys cutting‐edge approaches that merge biomimetic CV constructs with computational simulations to overcome the limitations of traditional models, improve ...
