Phenothiazine drugs have a potent sedative action, a marked antiemetic effect, and an apparent synergism with narcotics, barbiturates, and anesthetic agents. Preanesthetic medication with promethazine, scopolamine, and reduced doses of meperidine afforded optimal sedation without significant respiratory and circulatory depressions.
