Modelling pulsatile blood flow through surgically coupled microvascular anastomoses [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
The significant rates of post-operative arterial thrombus formation following the sutured anastomosis (surgical connection) of vessels in microvascular reconstruction has kindled the development of engineered solutions such as the UNILINK coupler. These devices reduce thrombosis rates, which recent numerical studies suggest to be due to decreases in ...

Intraoperative perfusion assessment by continuous, low-latency hyperspectral light-field imaging: development, methodology, and clinical application [PDF]

open access: yesProc. SPIE 13306, Advanced Biomedical and Clinical Diagnostic and Surgical Guidance Systems XXIII, 1330606 (20 March 2025)
Accurate assessment of tissue perfusion is crucial in visceral surgery, especially during anastomosis. Currently, subjective visual judgment is commonly employed in clinical settings. Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) offers a non-invasive, quantitative alternative. However, HSI imaging lacks continuous integration into the clinical workflow.

Surgical Temporal Action-aware Network with Sequence Regularization for Phase Recognition [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
To assist surgeons in the operating theatre, surgical phase recognition is critical for developing computer-assisted surgical systems, which requires comprehensive understanding of surgical videos. Although existing studies made great progress, there are still two significant limitations worthy of improvement.

A Rare Presentation of Crohn's Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Free peritoneal perforation is a rare complication of Crohn's disease with a report of only 100 cases in the literature. It needs an emergency exploration and an unaware general surgeon is confounded in intraoperative decision-making.

Advantages of subtotal gastrectomy for upper third gastric cancer: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
We revealed that subtotal gastrectomy (STG) has its advantage over total gastrectomy on shorter operation time, less complication rates, and lower body weight loss by meta‐analysis. Although there are some controversies, STG can be an ideal option for patients with gastric cancer of upper third stomach.

Pancreaticojejuno Anastomosis after Pancreaticoduodenectomy: Brief Pathophysiological Considerations for a Rational Surgical Choice

open access: yesInternational Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2012
Introduction. The best pancreatic anastomosis technique after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is still debated. Pancreatic fistula (PF) is the most important complication but is also related to postoperative bleedings and pancreatic remnant involution.

Usefulness of microsurgical back‐table angioplasty for multiple hepatic arteries in living donor liver transplantation

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, 2020
The graft hepatic artery orifice is tiny in living donor liver transplantation, and therefore, it is more difficult to reconstruct the hepatic artery than in deceased donor liver transplantation.
