The musculocutaneous infrahyoid flap: surgical key points
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 2011For the first time in 1979, it was described by Wang that the infrahyoid musculocutaneous flap (IHMC flap) appears to be extremely suitable for medium-sized head and neck defect. Nevertheless, this flap remains unpopular because of its pretended lack of reliability.

Surgical Indications for Fasciocutaneous Flaps
Annals of Plastic Surgery, 1984The development of the fasciocutaneous flap, its relationship to the musculocutaneous flap, and the surgical indications for its use in various areas of the body are discussed. The precise vascular architecture has not yet been described, nor have reliable guidelines been established for the safe use of these flaps, but some clinical observations are ...

Kinetics of E-Selectin Expression in Surgical Flaps
Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 1997During the ischemia/reperfusion phenomenon, adhesion molecules seem to play a critical role in the recruitment of neutrophils to sites of eventual tissue injury. E-selectin is an endothelium-derived molecule that mediates adhesion of neutrophils to activated endothelial cells.

Surgical Flaps: The Upper‐to‐Lower Eyelid Transposition Flap
The Journal of Dermatologic Surgery and Oncology, 1983Abstract. One of the methods of reconstructing superficial lower eyelid defects is by transposition of upper eyelid skin to the defect area. The stepwise methodology of this flap is discussed and demonstrated. The additional use of small, centrally placed grafts from the superfluous distal flap skin broadens the use of the flap.

Surgical Flaps in Mohs Micrographic Surgery
Journal of the Dermatology Nurses' Association, 2019ABSTRACT Skin cancer can be broadly categorized into melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC). Squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma are the most common subtypes of NMSC. When a patient presents with a skin finding suspect for NMSC, a confirming skin biopsy is performed.

A Simple “Fishtail Flap” for Surgical Correction of Microstomia
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2011Treatment of microstomia, whether congenital or acquired, has long challenged the ingenuity of surgeons. In all instances, the challenge remains the ability to preserve function and provide and maintain reasonable aesthetics. The following case report presents 2 different cases of surgical correction of microstomia, resulting from flap reconstructions ...

Role of Nitric Oxide in Surgical Flap Survival
Journal of the American College of Surgeons, 2005N p b i t e p b a m a f d p i he field of plastic surgery has been dealing with the olecular mechanisms affecting flap survival since the dvent of molecular biology. The characterization of he milieu of tissue factor and cell-signaling molecules hat contribute to flap survival or necrosis continues to eceive interest from investigators. In recent years,

Surgical Anatomy of the Scapular Spine in the Trapezius-Osteomuscular Flap [PDF]
Measurements of the spine of the scapula in relationship to the trapezius-osteomuscular flap were made in a series of cadavers. These measurements enable estimation of the amount of available bone present and give the reconstructive surgeon a series of guidelines for using the trapezius-osteomuscular flap in correcting mandibular defects.

A surgical algorithm for partial or total eyebrow flap reconstruction
Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2015The eyebrow is one of the five aesthetic sub‐units of the forehead and it plays a key role in communication and facial expression. Reconstruction of this region can be challenging. Several methods have been described, mostly based on the size of the defect and on the part of the eyebrow that they involve.
