Usefulness of a Lateral Thoracodorsal Flap after Breast Conserving Surgery in Laterally Located Breast Cancer [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Plastic Surgery, 2013
BackgroundBreast-conserving surgery is widely accepted as an appropriate method in breast cancer, and the lateral thoracodorsal flap provides a simple, reliable technique, especially when a mass is located in the lateral breast.

Gingival hyperplasia around dental implants in jaws reconstructed with free vascularized flaps: a case report series [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Free vascularized flaps are the gold standard for reconstruction of the facial skeleton after surgical ablation of pathologies or when important atrophy of the jaws exists.

Bioprinting Perfusable and Vascularized Skeletal Muscle Flaps for the Treatment of Volumetric Muscle Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Volumetric muscle loss (VML) due to trauma or surgery, often leads to physical impairments. Traditional treatments rely on autologous flaps, limited by muscle availability often leading to donor site morbidity. This study presents multimodal bioprinting as an innovative approach for fabricating vascularized muscle flaps with 3D‐printed macrovessels ...

Flag flutter in inviscid channel flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Using nonlinear vortex-sheet simulations, we determine the region in parameter space in which a straight flag in a channel-bounded inviscid flow is unstable to flapping motions. We find that for heavier flags, greater confinement increases the size of the region of instability. For lighter flags, confinement has little influence.

Mandibular Implants: A Metamaterial‐Based Approach to Reducing Stress Shielding

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Metamaterial mandibular implants offer a novel approach to reducing stress shielding and enhancing biomechanical stimulation. This study compares a gyroid‐based metamaterial plate to a solid titanium plate using photoelasticity and finite element analysis.

Experimental model for the study of soft tissue fixation methods on skin-pericranium flaps in rats [PDF]

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2013
PURPOSE: To develop an experimental model to study and radiologically monitor displacement of skin flaps in the pericranium of rats subjected to traction and surgical fixation using suture anchored in a skull bone tunnel or with N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate ...

SAMSNeRF: Segment Anything Model (SAM) Guides Dynamic Surgical Scene Reconstruction by Neural Radiance Field (NeRF) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The accurate reconstruction of surgical scenes from surgical videos is critical for various applications, including intraoperative navigation and image-guided robotic surgery automation. However, previous approaches, mainly relying on depth estimation, have limited effectiveness in reconstructing surgical scenes with moving surgical tools.
