Shape Memory Polymer‐Based Hook‐and‐Loop Fastener for Robust Bonding and on‐Demand Easy Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D shape memory polymer‐based hook‐and‐loop fastener, fabricated using projection microstereolithography and molding, offers tunable bonding strength through temperature control. When heated from 25 to 70 °C, the fastener softens and deforms easily, reducing bonding strength by 20‐fold for on‐demand easy separation.

X‐Ray Computed Tomography Quantifies Primary Phases and Reveals Crack Morphology in High‐Cycle Fatigue of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Primary phases and a fatigue crack are studied in a forged blank of an aluminum alloy using synchrotron and laboratory X‐ray computed tomography. To image the crack, the fatigue test is interrupted, and a static tensile load is applied to open the crack.

Instrument-Splatting: Controllable Photorealistic Reconstruction of Surgical Instruments Using Gaussian Splatting [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Real2Sim is becoming increasingly important with the rapid development of surgical artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomy. In this work, we propose a novel Real2Sim methodology, Instrument-Splatting, that leverages 3D Gaussian Splatting to provide fully controllable 3D reconstruction of surgical instruments from monocular surgical videos.

Assessing the Microstructure of SnBiZn Alloys during Semisolid Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The development of Sn‐based alloys for semisolid processing is crucial for Industry 4.0. This study investigates Sn40Bi and Sn40Bi2Zn alloys, revealing that Zn refines Sn‐rich globules by pinning dendrite boundaries. Bi saturation occurs at 60 min, while Zn enhances globule microhardness at 90 min through solid solution strengthening.

A Wrapping Method for Inserting Titanium Micro-Mesh Implants in the Reconstruction of Blowout Fractures

open access: yesArchives of Plastic Surgery, 2016
Titanium micro-mesh implants are widely used in orbital wall reconstructions because they have several advantageous characteristics. However, the rough and irregular marginal spurs of the cut edges of the titanium mesh sheet impede the efficacious and ...
