The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

A randomized controlled trial comparing large versus small stitch incision closure in gynaecological malignancies (CLaSSIC Study)

open access: yesCancer Treatment and Research Communications
Objective: The study aimed to compare Small Stitch Closure (SSC) and Large Stitch Closure (LSC) techniques for reducing incisional ventral hernia (IVH) and surgical site infection (SSI) rates in gynaecological malignancies. Methods: We conducted a single-

Scalpel blade contamination and risk of postoperative surgical site infection following abdominal incisions in dogs

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2019
Objective This prospective observation sought to determine if scalpel blades used for abdominal skin incisions in dogs are a significant source of bacterial contamination, and if these blades should be changed prior to use in deeper dissection.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Surgical Site Infection

open access: yesJournal of Islamic International Medical College, 2014
Surgical Site Infection (SSI) accounts for 15% of all nosocomial infections. Post surgical infection leads to higher readmission, increased length of postoperative hospital stay which drastically escalate expenses and jeopardize health outcomes.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

The Effect of Duration of Disinfection of Bacterial Flora of Surgical Site

open access: yesنشریه پرستاری ایران, 2008
Background and Aim: Skin disinfection is an effective method of preventing surgical site infection (SSI), but there is controversy about the duration of skin preparation.

Risk factors associated with surgical site infection after breast surgery [PDF]

open access: yesReviews in Clinical Medicine, 2015
Breast surgical site infection is not only one of the main causes of the morbidity and mortality of cases under different types of surgeries, but also it results in longer hospitalization and additional expenses.
