Decreasing surgical site infections in pediatric stoma closures
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2020Gastrointestinal (GI) operations represent a significant proportion of the surgical site infection (SSI) burden in pediatric patients, resulting in significant morbidity. We have previously demonstrated that a GI bundle decreases SSI rates, length of stay (LOS), and hospital charges.

Surgical history. Evolution of the stoma.
The Australian and New Zealand journal of surgery, 1989The evolution of the procedures for the formation of a surgical abdominal stoma are outlined; this was first, intestinal exteriorization for trauma, then stoma formation alone and finally stoma formation associated with bowel resection. Accounts and recommendations occurred in the 16th and 17th centuries as by Pillore and Duret, but were few in number.

Innovative Surgical Procedures and Stoma Care in the Future
Nursing Clinics of North America, 1987Innovative surgical procedures require particular attention to the technical, educational, and emotional issues. Patients need thorough education to understand surgical options, complications, and expected outcomes. Because of the new aspect of these procedures, patients and significant others may feel quite isolated from others.

[Intestinal stomas--indications, stoma types, surgical technique].
Therapeutische Umschau. Revue therapeutique, 2007The formation of an intestinal stoma is one of the most frequent operations in visceral surgery. Despite new operative techniques and a more restrictive use of the stoma, the stoma formation remains an often necessary surgical procedure, which results to a dramatic change in the patients' life.

Selection and Evaluation of Color/Depth Camera for Imaging Surgical Stoma
2021We aim to develop a system to evaluate pouch attachment to and removal from stoma (artificial anus). For preliminary evaluation, we devoted this study to verify if a color/depth camera can accurately capture the stoma shape. Specifically, a 3D scanner was used to take precise images of three stoma models made of human tissue-mimicking gel and with ...

Surgical Access Through the Stoma for Laparoscopic Reversal of Hartmann Procedures
Surgical Laparoscopy, Endoscopy & Percutaneous Techniques, 2013The rate of stoma reversal after Hartmann procedure is low, principally because of the technically demanding nature of the reversal procedure and preexisting comorbid disease frequently present in this patient group. Laparoscopic reversal of Hartmann procedure is an attractive alternative that can reduce perioperative morbidity but the feasibility of ...

[Surgical strategy for stoma creation in the challenging patients].
Zhonghua wei chang wai ke za zhi = Chinese journal of gastrointestinal surgery, 2022Stoma is a commonly used surgical procedure in clinic practice. However, for obese patients with thick abdominal wall, short and thickened mesentery, and for patients with intestinal obstruction and abdominal distension (difficult stoma), establishing a tension- free and well blood-supplied stoma is still a great challenge.

A surgical technique for size reduction of exceedingly large tracheal stoma
Auris Nasus Larynx, 2011After tracheostomy some patients may develop a tracheal stoma of excessive size. Effective application of tracheostomy tube is not possible in those patients.Inserted cannula for protection from aspiration or artificial ventilatory assistance becomes easily displaced in two patients with tracheal stoma of excessive size. A simple surgical technique for
