Trends in Survival Rates of Patients with Cancer
New England Journal of Medicine, 1975Reports on survival of patients with cancer issued by the National Cancer Institute indicate marked improvement for almost all forms of cancer from the 1940's to 1950's. Subsequently, prognosis for patients with forms of cancer accounting for approximately 42 per cent of all cancers continued to improve, although at a slower rate.

The Statistical Comparison of Relative Survival Rates
Biometrics, 1983A statistical procedure for comparing the survival of two or more groups of patients adjusted for normal mortality expectation, i.e. for calculating relative survival, is proposed. The method is shown to correspond to some commonly used procedures for comparing unadjusted survival; it provides an improvement over these procedures in many situations ...

THE HOMOGENETIC ESTIMATE FOR THE VARIANCE OF SURVIVAL RATE
Statistics in Medicine, 1996The homogenetic estimate for the variance of survival rate is proposed based on generalization and reduction between the complement of the empirical distribution function and the Kaplan--Meier or Berkson--Gage estimate. It reduces to the binomial variance estimate when there is no censoring.
