Macroscopic, Histological and Ultrastructural Features of the Tongue of the Anatolian Wild Boar (Sus scrofa libycus)

open access: yesMicroscopy Research and Technique, EarlyView.
Integrated macroscopic, histological, and ultrastructural analyses revealed five distinct lingual papillae types (filiform, fungiform, conical, foliate, and vallate) in the Anatolian wild boar (Sus scrofa libycus). Mechanical papillae showed marked structural specialization, while gustatory papillae exhibited region‐specific distribution of taste buds.

Effects of a Multi-Suckling System Combined With Enriched Housing Post-Weaning on Response and Cognitive Resilience to Isolation

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022
Improving welfare is still a critical issue in pig husbandry. Upgrades of the housing environment seem to be a promising solution to optimise resilience as a whole, and therefore improve animal welfare.

Insights into Red Deer Ecology during the Late Epigravettian: New isotopic evidence from Riparo Tagliente (Italian Prealps)

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The transition from the Last Glacial Maximum to the Late Glacial marked a shift from the cold conditions of Greenland Stadial‐2 (GS‐2) to the warmer phases of Greenland Interstadial‐1 (GI‐1), enabling the reoccupation of Alpine regions by Late Palaeolithic hunter‐gatherers.

Shared foraging behaviors between hyenas and hominins in the Middle Paleolithic Levant: New evidence from Geula Cave, Israel

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While competition with large carnivores is likely to have shaped Middle Paleolithic hominins' subsistence behavior, palimpsested human and carnivore accumulations render the signal challenging to isolate. This study presents a detailed zooarchaeological and taphonomic analysis of a non‐anthropogenic faunal assemblage from a MIS 5 (~130–80 ka ...

Sequencing and cardiac expression of Apelin in Sus Scrofa☆

open access: yesPharmacological Research, 2009
In humans, the Apelin gene is located on chromosome Xq25-26.1 and it encodes a 77-aminoacid prepropeptide. Considerable sequence homology exists across different mammalian species. Apelin is emerging as an important regulator of cardiovascular homeostasis but, at present, few data from humans are available and further studies are necessary to better ...

Ion Activation Methods for Top‐Down Proteomics

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mass spectrometry (MS) has emerged as a premier method used to characterize the sequences of proteins. Top‐down proteomics aims to capture the multiple sources of structural diversity reflected in proteins, such as those that arise from alternative RNA splicing events or the addition of post‐translational modifications. Tandem MS (i.e., MS/MS)

Combining two Meishan F2 crosses improves the detection of QTL on pig chromosomes 2, 4 and 6 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background In pig, a number of experiments have been set up to identify QTL and a multitude of chromosomal regions harbouring genes influencing traits of interest have been identified. However, the mapping resolution remains limited in most cases and the

Exploitation of Rabbits at the Dawn of the Holocene: Evidence From the Font Voltada Site (Northeastern Iberia) Using Comparative Neotaphonomic Models

open access: yesInternational Journal of Osteoarchaeology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT During the transition from the Pleistocene to the Holocene, hunter‐gatherer societies in the northeastern Iberian Peninsula increased the number of settlements and broadened their subsistence strategies. This period is marked by the appearance of terrestrial snail accumulations attributable to human harvesting, the expansion of specialized ...
