Obesity and the Politics of Taddeo di Bartolo's Inferno

open access: yesRenaissance Studies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines Taddeo di Bartolo's depiction of Hell in the Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, the mother church of San Gimignano. Evidence of West Nile Virus Infections in Wild Boars (Sus scrofa) in the Netherlands, 2018–2021

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Orthoflaviviruses are emerging in Europe and have potential significant impact on animal and public health. Usutu virus (USUV) and West Nile virus (WNV) have been first detected in the Netherlands in 2016 and 2020, respectively. Wild boars (Sus scrofa) have been suggested as an interesting population to detect the circulation of ...

Molecular Detection of Sarcocystis suihominis and Sarcocystis miescheriana in Wild Boars Hunted for Human Consumption in Poland Highlights a Potential Risk for the Consumer

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Wild boars and domestic pigs can act as intermediate hosts for two Sarcocystis species: Sarcocystis miescheriana and the zoonotic Sarcocystis suihominis. Humans become infected with S. suihominis by eating raw or undercooked meat. Herein we investigated the occurrence of Sarcocystis spp.

Architecture of the cardiac transverse–axial tubular system across different mammalian species

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Mammalian species differ in ventricular TATS architecture, and cytoplasmic distance to the nearest TATS element covaries with lifespan, body mass, and resting heart rate. Abstract Cardiac excitation–contraction coupling relies on a pancellular network of regular cardiomyocyte surface membrane invaginations, termed the transverse ...

Advancing wildlife image analysis: A Graph Attention Contrastive Learning approach for region‐specific mammal classification

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 4, October–December 2026.
The GACL model combines graph attention and parallel contrastive learning to classify region‐specific mammals from camera‐trap images. Trained on a new large‐scale Korean Wildlife Dataset, it achieves 96.8% accuracy across four classes (wild boar, goral, deer, and other) and outperforms global general‐purpose models at recognizing endemic species.
