Adaptive harvesting of two trophic levels stabilises predator–prey dynamics. Simulations with Eurasian lynx and European roe deer

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Europe has seen the recovery of many species of wild herbivores, which are now widespread across much of the continent. In addition, large carnivores are also recolonising many European countries. Hunting as anthropogenic sink of biomass or source of carrion? A brief case study based on German hunting bags

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Dead biomass is a crucial nutrient source for ecosystems. Although hunting residues can subsidize numerous scavenging organisms and are known to drive important zoogeochemical processes at very different scales in the ecosystem, this has received little attention.

Selectivity and efficiency of predator control methods: a case study from a Mediterranean hunting ground

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Predator control is a widely used management tool worldwide to reduce the impact of opportunistic predatory species, but in some contexts where predators are controlled to reduce negative impacts on game species, there are concerns about the selectivity and efficiency.

Macroscopic, Histological and Ultrastructural Features of the Tongue of the Anatolian Wild Boar (Sus scrofa libycus). [PDF]

open access: yesMicrosc Res Tech
Integrated macroscopic, histological, and ultrastructural analyses revealed five distinct lingual papillae types (filiform, fungiform, conical, foliate, and vallate) in the Anatolian wild boar (Sus scrofa libycus). Mechanical papillae showed marked structural specialization, while gustatory papillae exhibited region‐specific distribution of taste buds.
