Hypnotic Susceptibility Assessed in Large Groups

International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, 1963
Abstract One group of 52 volunteer Ss and another group of 39 “coerced volunteer” Ss were hypnotized following the Harvard adaptation of the Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale. Subsequently, 19 volunteers and 22 non-volunteers were hypnotized individually following Form C of the Stanford scale.

Genetic susceptibility: significance in risk assessment

Toxicology Letters, 1998
Polymorphisms in metabolism and DNA-repair genes can increase the risks of cancer associated with exposure to chemical and physical agents in the environment. These types of gene-environment interactions may alter our view of dose-response patterns and how to characterize risk in an exposed population.

Variations in Concepts of “Susceptibility” in Risk Assessment

Risk Analysis, 2000
The Food Quality Protection Act and the 1996 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act are two of the most recent examples of legislation calling for protection of susceptible subpopulations. As regulatory deadlines draw nearer, controversies in scientific and policy arenas increase about incorporating susceptibility in risk assessment.

Assessment of Susceptibility to Measles and Rubella

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1982
We conducted a serological and questionnaire study of 755 US Merchant Marine Academy cadets (aged 16 to 29 years) and their parents to determine the cadets' susceptibility rate to measles and rubella and to see if there was any difference in the accuracy of cadet and parental histories of previous infection and vaccination.

Assessing genetic susceptibility to diabetic nephropathy

Nephrology, 2005
SUMMARY:  Diabetic nephropathy is a serious complication of diabetes and the leading cause of end‐stage renal disease. Studies indicate both environmental and genetic factors contribute to the development and progression of diabetic nephropathy. In particular, epidemiological evidence shows a familial clustering of nephropathy in siblings with diabetes,

Landslide Susceptibility Assessment with Machine Learning Algorithms

2009 International Conference on Intelligent Networking and Collaborative Systems, 2009
Case study addresses NW slopes of Fruska GoraMountain, Serbia. Landslide activity is quite notorious in this region, especially along the Danube’s right river bank, and recently intensified seismicity coupled with atmospheric precipitation might be critical for triggering new landslide occurrences.

Melanoma Susceptibility Genes and Risk Assessment

2013
Familial melanoma accounts for approximately a tenth of all melanoma cases. The most commonly known melanoma susceptibility gene is the highly penetrant CDKN2A (p16INK4a) locus, which is transmitted in an autosomal dominant fashion and accounts for approximately 20-50 % of familial melanoma cases. Mutated p16INK4a shows impaired capacity to inhibit the

Assessment of Acinetobacter baumannii susceptibility to antiseptics and disinfectants

Journal of Hospital Infection, 2003
Disinfection and antisepsis are of primary importance in controlling outbreaks of Acinetobacter baumannii, a nosocomial pathogen that frequently shows multiple antibiotic resistance. In this study we assessed the susceptibility of nine A. baumannii strains isolated during a sustained intensive care unit outbreak, to several antiseptics and ...

Scales for assessing perceptions of health hazard susceptibility

Health Education Research, 1993
Two studies examined the effectiveness of a variety of commonly used likelihood scales (dichotomous scale, five-point verbally-labeled scale, odds scale, percentage scale, etc.) for assessing perceptions of personal susceptibility to health and safety risks. Two direct evaluation criteria (subjects' ratings of how easy it was to use a scale and of how
