Suspended Sediment Concentration Profiles
Applied Mechanics Reviews, 1995An evaluation is given of the methods of modeling concentration profiles of suspended non-cohesive sediments in natural streams and under waves. The bottom boundary condition and the distribution models are treated separately. The merits of the simple concentration boundary condition, which has been favored by practice, are compared to those of the ...

Hyperconcentrations of Suspended Sediment
Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1964Extremely high suspended sediment concentrations in streamflow, those exceeding 40% by weight, are shown to consist largely of sands with an apparent minimum fine material concentration of approximately 15% by weight. X-ray diffraction analyses of the clay fractions show mostly montmorillonite and illite with some kaolinite.

Estimation of suspended-sediment rating curves and mean suspended-sediment loads
Journal of Hydrology, 1991Suspended-sediment loads are often estimated from an empirical relation between suspended-sediment load (L) and streamflow (S). This relation is usually defined as a power function, L = aSb, and is referred to as a suspended-sediment rating curve. This function can be formulated as either a linear or non-linear model to find the solution of the rating ...

High suspended sediment (SPS) concentrations exist in many Asian river systems. In this research, the effects of SPS concentration on nitrification in river water systems were studied. With orwithout introducing ammonium-oxidizing bacteria isolated from the water and sediment samples of the Yellow River, the microbially mediated nitrification rate ...

AbstractThe majority of annual sediment flux is transported during storm events in many watersheds across the world. Using X‐ray diffraction, we analyzed the mineralogy of grab samples of suspended sediment during different stages of storm hydrographs in the Southern Piedmont.
