Screening of non-edible (second-generation) feedstocks for the production of sustainable aviation fuel

open access: yesFuel, 2023
This paper examines the potential of suitable second-generation feedstocks for sustainable aviation fuel production, theoretically based on fatty acid-based fuel properties.

Decarbonizing aviation: The roles of sustainable aviation fuels and hydrogen fuel

MIT Science Policy Review, 2023
As the aviation sector is projected to continue growing in the coming decades, so too are its greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impacts. Improvements to the efficiency of jet fuel-powered airplanes have dominated past emissions reduction efforts, but increasingly diminishing efficiency improvements now motivate the transition to alternative ...

SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUELS

DYNA
The commercial aviation sector emitted 915 million tonnes of CO2 in 2019, 2% of human activity emissions and 12% of transport CO2 emissions. The sector is thus committed to mitigating its impact on climate change.

Sustainable alternative fuels in aviation

Energy, 2017
Abstract In recent years, renewable energy resources have become more important due to the limited number of regions for production of petroleum-based fuels, which are continuously depleting. The aviation sector in terms of commercial and cargo transportation has an increasing need for conventional, as well as, alternative fuels.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel

The aviation sector’s direct emissions account for roughly 2.5% of global CO2 emissions. Electrification may be plausible for short flights but is unlikely to be suitable for long haul flights; hydrogen powered planes are a possibility but will only be sustainable if enough hydrogen can be produced sustainably.
