Long term fertiliser experiment - an index of yield and soil sustainability

Madras Agricultural Journal, 2000
In the field experiment conducted since 1972, crops numbering to 66 have been grown in a fingermillet maize cowpea (fodder) cropping sequence, it was observed that there was a build up in the organic carbon content of the soil. The build up was maximum for the combined application of farmyard manure and optimum NPK (100%).

Carbon sequestration potential and sustainable yield index for groundnut- and fallow-based cropping systems

The Journal of Agricultural Science, 2006
Soil organic carbon storage encompasses both soil productivity and environmental capabilities. The influence of fertilizer (nitrogen and phosphorus) levels (0 NP, 0·5 NP, 1·0 NP (recommended standard) or 1·5 NP) on total system productivity, sustainable yield index and soil organic carbon storage in Vertisols (Typic Haplustert) under groundnut and ...

Sustainable yield index and soil properties in mango under different nutrient management strategies

Indian Journal of Horticulture, 2018
A field experiment was conducted during 2012–15 to estimate the sustainable yield index and variations in soil properties in mango under different nutrient management modules in subtropical climatic condition of Lucknow. Inorganic (NPK and micronutrients) and organic sources (FYM, Azotobacter and PSM) were tried for improving the mango productivity ...

Assessing the sustainability of small-scale anaerobic digestion systems with the introduction of the emergy efficiency index (EEI) and adjusted yield ratio (AYR)

Ecological Engineering, 2014
Abstract Two anaerobic digestion (AD) systems, a human sanitation AD system in Haiti and a dairy manure AD system in the US, were investigated using emergy analysis to determine their relative sustainability. Two new indices were developed: the emergy efficiency index (EEI), which is the market equivalent emergy yield of the products divided by the ...

Effects of 41 Years of Application of Inorganic Fertilizers and Farm Yard Manure on Crop Yields, Soil Quality, and Sustainable Yield Index under a Rice-Wheat Cropping System on Mollisols of North India

Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 2015
ABSTRACTThe present investigation was carried out to evaluate the effect of integrated nutrient management (INM) on crop yield sustainability and soil quality in a long-term trial initiated during the wet season of 1971 under a humid subtropical climate.
