Enzyme‐Regulated Extended Swelling of Hydrogels for Dehiscence‐Less Tissue Expansions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An interpenetrating hydrogel network with swelling under regulation by enzymatic degradation (INSURED) is fabricated to avoid dehiscence. INSURED remains structurally intact post‐implantation, while HYAL injection enables control over the onset and rate of swelling.

Descriptive Anatomy and Three-Dimensional Reconstruction of the Skull of the Early Tetrapod Acanthostega gunnari Jarvik, 1952 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The early tetrapod Acanthostega gunnari is an iconic fossil taxon exhibiting skeletal morphology reflecting the transition of vertebrates from water onto land. Computed tomography data of two Acanthostega skulls was segmented using visualization software

Modified Tension Band Wiring Using Only Non-Absorbable Braided Polyblend Sutures for the Treatment of Patellar Fractures

open access: yesSurgical Techniques Development
Patellar fractures represent approximately 1% of all fractures and the pattern is influenced by the quality of the bone and the energy of the trauma. Transverse fractures are associated with extensor mechanism failure and interruption of joint congruence.

Transparent Inorganic–Organic Bilayer Neural Electrode Array and Integration to Miniscope System for In Vivo Calcium Imaging and Electrophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the BioCLEAR system, a highly transparent and conductive neural electrode array composed of silver nanowires (AgNWs) and doped PEDOT:PSS, enabling neural recordings with minimal optical artifacts. When integrated with a GRIN lens, this cost‐effective neural implant allows simultaneous electrophysiological recording and GCaMP6‐based ...

Comparison of Sutureless Versus Suture Partial Nephrectomy for Clinical T1 Renal Cell Carcinoma: A Meta-Analysis of Retrospective Studies

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2021
BackgroundPartial nephrectomy (PN) is the recommended treatment for T1 renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Compared with suture PN, sutureless PN reduces the difficulty and time of operation, but the safety and feasibility have been controversial.

The sutures in dentistry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In oral surgery, the last phase of a surgical operation is represented by the tissues suture, that allows the wound lips edges approximation and their stabilization, to promote haemostasis, to avoid the alimentary residues accumulation on the incision ...

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...
