Efficacy of reinforcing sutures for prevention of anastomotic leakage after low anterior resection for rectal cancer: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesCancer Reports
Background and Objectives Anastomotic leakage is a serious complication following surgery for cancer of the rectum. It is not clear whether reinforcing sutures could prevent anastomotic leakage.

Resolving homology in the face of shifting germ layer origins: Lessons from a major skull vault boundary

open access: yeseLife, 2019
The vertebrate skull varies widely in shape, accommodating diverse strategies of feeding and predation. The braincase is composed of several flat bones that meet at flexible joints called sutures.

Tensile strength requirements for sutures

open access: yes, 1983
The official requirements for sutures in Australia are those of British Pharmacopoeia (B.P.). The results of a survey conducted by this Laboratory indicate that the B.P. test and specifications for knot pull strength are no longer appropriate for sutures

A brief introduction on the biomechanics of craniofacial sutures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Biomechanical studies of the craniofacial sutures can be classified in three groups: to understand (1) the inherent mechanical properties of the sutures; (2) the role and function of the sutures (using in vivo and in silico techniques); and (3) how ...

The Three-Bite Technique: A Novel Method of Dog Ear Correction

open access: yesArchives of Plastic Surgery, 2015
The closure of any circular or asymmetric wound can result in puckering or an excess of tissue known as a 'dog ear'. Understanding the mechanism of dog ear formation is a fundamental requirement necessary to facilitate an appropriate treatment.

GPR124 Alleviates Blood–Brain Barrier Disruption by Enhancing Microvascular Endothelial Function after Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study reveals the protective role of GPR124 in maintaining BBB integrity and promoting neurological recovery following TBI. It makes a significant contribution by uncovering a novel molecular interaction between GPR124 and FGFBP1 and linking this to activation of the Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway in vascular repair mechanisms.
