Abstract The Arctic Ocean has experienced intensifying phytoplankton spring blooms near the sea ice edge. Here, we investigate the drivers of such near‐ice blooms in the Greenland Sea by comparing satellite and in situ observations with the ECCO‐Darwin physical–biogeochemical state estimate.

Elevation shapes alpine snow algal blooms and their influence on albedo reduction
Graphical summary of elevational trends in Sanguina‐dominated snow algal blooms. Increasing elevation was associated with larger cells, lower Chla content per cell, higher astaxanthin ratios, lower snow water content, and reduced cell‐normalized albedo, whereas algal cell density showed no consistent elevational trend.

Names in the genus Pinguicula established for taxa from the Baltic and Nordic countries, including their oversea territories and Iceland, were analyzed to provide nomenclatural and taxonomic clarity. Of the 33 names retrieved from the literature and online databases, one is illegitimate, two are invalid and 16 were found to require typification.

Changes of hydrothermal structure of Austre Grønfjordbreen and Fridtjovbreen Glaciers in Svalbard
The results of ground-based RES studies (20 MHz) at the Austre Grønfjordbreen and Fridtjovbreen glaciers on Nordenskiöld Land, Svalbard, spring 2010–2012, were compared with previous airborne RES data (620 MHz) of 1979 to understand the hydrothermal ...

Complementary Insights From Range Size and Range Structure in Explaining Species Distributions
ABSTRACT Aim To assess the relationship between measures of species' range size and range structure, and to analyse how these measures differ in their relationships to species' intrinsic characteristics and external geographic drivers. Location Europe. Taxon 813 vascular plant taxa endemic to Europe.

This review explores how to make staple foods and horticultural crops more nutritious, including how artificial intelligence‐based screening of gene banks helps deploy nutritionally rich germplasm into breeding. Genome editing can help develop crops richer in minerals, vitamins, and health‐promoting compounds, supporting healthier diets and more ...

FloeNet: A Mass‐Conserving Global Sea Ice Emulator That Generalizes Across Climates
Abstract We introduce FloeNet, a graph neural network trained to emulate the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory global sea ice model, SIS2. FloeNet is a mass‐conserving model, emulating 6‐hr mass and area budget tendencies related to sea ice and snow‐on‐sea‐ice growth, melt, and advection.
