As I write this, Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is at the pre-buzz stage, though not by much. A lot of companies are playing with SVG along the periphery, not as something central to their core products yet, but adding it in as an easy-to-create format for reading or writing graphics.

An SVG browser for XML languages
Proceedings of Theory and Practice of Computer Graphics, 2003., 2003In this paper, we show how XML-based languages such as XHTML, MathML and SVG can be rendered into SVG. The SVG generated can then be displayed on a screen or printer. A variety of architectural approaches are explored and we present both server-side and client-side solutions using engines written in Java and JavaScript.
