Prediction of swash motion and run-up including the effects of swash interaction

Coastal Engineering, 2005
Modifications to a model describing swash motion based on solutions to the non-linear shallow water equations were made to account for interaction between up-rush and back-wash at the still water shoreline and within the swash zone. Inputs to the model are wave heights and arrival times at the still water shoreline.

Swash-zone morphodynamics

Continental Shelf Research, 2006
Hydrodynamic forcing with respect to sediment transport and morphologic change, paying particular attention to relevant swash asymmetries, is reviewed. The hydrodynamics are categorized into their individual effects: high- and low-frequency motions, bores and turbulence, in/exfiltration, shear stresses and friction coefficients.

The swash zone

2020
This chapter describes the morphological features and key processes related to the swash zone, situated at the landward edge of the inundated part of the beach system. It is where incoming surf zone waves force oscillatory motion of the shoreline at a variety of frequencies.

Swash and swash mark

Eos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1951
The time interval between swashes was found to be longer for gentle marine beaches than for steep ones owing to differing effectiveness of the beaches as wave filters. This relationship offers a possible means of determining the angle of beach slope from aerial reconnaissance.

Velocity Profiles at the Swash Zone

Coastal Structures 2003, 2004
Velocity profiles at the swash zone have been sampled with an ADVP during a large scale experiment on a fixed bed beach. The unique set of data permits to observe the time variation of the velocity distributions and to contribute to the debate concerning the variation of the friction factor, f , in a swash cycle. The analyses of the velocity data with

The Swash and the Buckler

2017
Curtiz directed The Sea Hawk, an epic swashbuckler starring Errol Flynn. Shot on the studio’s Stage 21, which could be flooded with water and included two hydraulically operated ship sets, the picture was personally crafted by Curtiz, who shot unauthorized action scenes instead of relying on stock footage that Hal Wallis wanted to use.

Hydrodinamics in the swash zone

2000
This paper describes a study of the hydrodynamics in the swash zone using an impermeable concrete beach in a laboratory flume. Analysis was made of the measurements achieved using level wave gauges and a laser Doppler velocimeter. From these measurements we could derive the mean motion and turbulence characteristics along the main flow direction in ...

The Swash Channel Wreck

The Swash Channel Wreck is an account of the discovery, excavation and analysis of an early 17th-century Dutch shipwreck. The wreck is most likely the Dutch West Indiaman Fame of Hoorn, lost in the Swash Channel in the approaches to Poole Harbour in February 1631.
