Spherulite in the modern aragonitic travertine stromatolite has a calcite core with exopolymers

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Spherulites are spherical to ellipsoidal particles formed by various crystalline substances and can be abiotically synthesised in the laboratory. Among various spherulite types, spherulites composed of calcium carbonate are also found in various natural environments, but their abiotic or biotic origins are still controversial.

Triply‐Twinned Metamaterials: Unraveling the Mechanics and Failure Pathways Through High‐Resolution XCT

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 31, 2 June 2026.
Triply‐twinned architected lattices transform deformation from bending to stretching of struts, delivering up to threefold increases in stiffness and strength across polymeric and metallic systems. High‐resolution synchrotron XCT and image‐based simulations reveal how meta‐grain architecture, defects, and AM build orientation govern failure pathways ...

Dynamic Response Analysis of a Tandem Type Hydraulic Piston Pump with Swash Plate.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series C, 1998
Vibration of hydraulic piston pumps has raised acute noise problems. In this work, a tandem piston pump with a swash plate is considered as a many-body combination system which has seven mass and thirty-five degrees of freedom. Motion equations expressing the entire system are used for analysis of the dynamic response of the system.

Volcanism at Piton de la Fournaise as an Analog for Chloris Mons, Venus

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Identifying and investigating terrestrial analogs for Venus volcanic activity is necessary to prepare for the planned upcoming missions to Venus. We propose volcanism at Piton de la Fournaise, a frequently active oceanic shield volcano, as an analog to volcanism at Chloris Mons, Venus.

Investigations on the friction between piston and cylinder of swash plate axial piston machines

open access: yes, 1974

The Impact of High‐Productivity Processing on the Fatigue Failure of an Additive Manufactured Superalloy HAYNES 282

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 8, 22 April 2026.
The low cycle fatigue life of additive manufactured HAYNES® 282® superalloy was investigated for conventional and high‐productivity processing: samples of the former lasted 1400–1700 cycles, while samples of the latter failed at ~ 1200 cycles, at 760 °C and 1% strain.

Laser Metal Powder Deposition of Titanium Microalloyed HSLA Steel FeC0.12Si0.25Mn1.3

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 7, 8 April 2026.
This study investigates the additive manufacturing of titanium‐doped high‐strength low‐alloy (HSLA) steel via laser metal deposition. It reveals distinct process‐structure relationships for elemental powder blends compared to prealloyed feedstocks.

A Study on Lubrication Characteristic of the Hydrostatic Bearing In Swash Plate Type Piston Motor [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Korea Society For Power System Engineering, 2011
The hydraulic piston using a hydrostatic bearing has been used widely due to its satisfying performance at very high pressurized circumstance and relative higher power density in comparison to conventional one. For high pressurization, enhanced efficiency and long durability of the hydraulic piston, the design of hydrostatic bearing is at issue, which ...

Lattice Structures for Bone Replacement: The Intersection of Bone Biomechanics, Lattice Design, and Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 7, 6 April 2026.
This review outlines how understanding bone's biology, hierarchical architecture, and mechanical anisotropy informs the design of lattice structures that replicate bone morphology and mechanical behavior. Additive manufacturing enables the fabrication of orthopedic implants that incorporate such structures using a range of engineering materials ...

Gear Pump Versus Variable Axial Piston Pump in Electro-Hydrostatic Servoactuators

open access: yesActuators
This paper presents a comparison of some different configurations of electro-hydrostatic actuators (EHA). The gear pump EHA has a simpler mechanical configuration, but the electronic power command circuits and the electric motor are in high demand due to
