Modified Grading Curve – SWCC Relations

2012
In the ongoing research a topological interpolation method was elaborated over the N -1 dimensional space of the grading curves – represented by a N -1 dimensional simplex - using c N 2 data. The surface is selected on the basis of the grading entropy concept and the interpolated function is extended to the whole simplex by the grading entropy map.

The Influence of the Compaction Energy on the SWCC of a Residual Soil

Advances in Unsaturated Geotechnics, 2000
The proliferation of the use of the soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) to obtain the unsaturated soil parameters is unavoidable and in some cases desired. However, the complex interrelation between soil water content and soil water suction makes the adequate indirect determination of the unsaturated soil parameters a difficult task.

Estimation of SWCC and Permeability for Granular Soils

2020
This chapter presents a new estimation model for soil–water characteristic curve (SWCC) of granular soils with the effect of initial density. The proposed model, namely the modified Fredlund and Xing (MFX) model, is based on the Fredlund and Xing equation without increasing the number of parameters.

An Oedometer-Type Pressure Plate SWCC Apparatus

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2008
Abstract A new oedometer device for SWCC determination has been evaluated by testing a wide range of soil types, and recommendations for best practices for use of this device have been made. The new device allows application and control of the net normal stress, σ−ua, in addition to the matric suction, ua−uw.

Effect of Drying and Wetting SWCCs on Unsaturated Soil Slopes

2021
The soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) exhibits hysteresis. It is the relation between soil water and soil suction. Desorption (drying) and sorption (wetting) can be used to obtain SWCC. The suction is different in drying and wetting SWCC paths. The slope failures generally take place in wetting SWCC. Therefore, a few efforts have been made in this

A New Equation for SWCCs of Unsaturated Soils

2018
In the current geotechnical engineering practice, soil-water characteristic curves (SWCCs) are essential for quantifying the mechanical responses of unsaturated soil. The SWCC can be measured from laboratory or estimated from some empirical equations.

Materials performance and failure evaluation in SWCC MSF plants

Desalination, 1994
Abstract An MSF plant is subjected to different forms of deteriorations due to the use of a wide variety of materials and existence of diverse types of environments. It is well established that seawater and uncondensed gases are responsible for the majority of the failures reported in desalination plants.

A Probabilistic and Mechanical Approach for Hysteresis of SWCC in Unsaturated Soil

Geo-Frontiers 2011, 2011
The relationship between suction and water content in an unsaturated soil is called the soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC). The SWCC of unsaturated soils is hysteretic in nature. In this paper, a numerical model for hysteresis is proposed to simulate the main and scanning curves of the SWCC in an unsaturated soil based on KITA-ARA model and KITA ...

Physical Modeling of SWCC for Granular Materials

2007
A physically model was used in this study to estimate the soil–water characteristic curve (SWCC) of granular materials in case of Hostun sand. Based on soil parameters and pore geometry the main drainage and main imbibition process as well as a scanning drainage and scanning imbibition process was determined.

The Effect of Temperature on the SWCC and Estimation of the SWCC from Moisture Profile under a Controlled Thermal Gradient

2014
In many situations, the upper layers of soil above the ground water table are in a state of unsaturated condition. Although unsaturated soils are found throughout the world, they are predominant in arid or semi-arid regions. In these areas, the soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) which relates the water content to the matric suction could be used as
