Speckle-Free Coherence Tomography of Turbid Media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a powerful biomedical imaging technology that relies on the coherent detection of backscattered light to image tissue morphology in vivo. As a consequence, OCT is susceptible to coherent noise (speckle noise), which imposes significant limitations on its diagnostic capabilities.

Light‐Activatable Hyaluronic Acid‐Derivatives Releasing Nitric Oxide and Their Delivery in the Skin

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores the development of photoactivatable hyaluronic acid (HA) derivatives functionalized with nitric oxide (NO) photodonors for light‐controlled therapeutic applications. The HA derivatives demonstrate enhanced keratinocyte proliferation and migration, effective NO release, and skin penetration when formulated as microemulsions.

Direct Surface Modification of the Epidermis Using Mussel‐Inspired Polydopamine with Multiple Anti‐Biofouling Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Surface modification using mussel‐derived polydopamine (PDA) is a versatile and robust biocompatible strategy that enables direct application to various epidermal surfaces, regardless of their morphological complexity or surface characteristics. The PDA‐coated epidermis exhibits multiple anti‐biofouling functionalities, including antibacterial and anti‐

Two Optical Coherence Tomography Systems detect Topical Gold Nanoparticles in Hair follicles, Sweat Ducts and Measure Epidermis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an established imaging technology for in vivo skin investigation. Topical application of gold nanoshells (GNS) provides contrast enhancement in OCT by generating a strong hyperreflective signal from hair follicles and sweat glands, which are the natural skin openings.

Diagnosis of cystic fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Applying the sweat-test as the first choice of test when a diagnosis of cystic fibrosis is suspected is still common practice and advisable. Since the cloning of the CFTR gene more than 400 different cystic fibrosis (CF) mutations have already been ...
