Synopsis On examination, two samples of clay from Keuper marls have been found to contain a chloritic mineral showing a limited c-axis expansion on glycerol treatment. One of these samples gives the same (001) spacing as montmorillonoids when treated with glycerol, and a heating test is necemary to make the distinction.

Swelling-induced telephone cord blisters in hydrogel films [PDF]
Polymeric hydrogels can undergo dramatic shape and volumetric change when immersed into an appropriate solvent due to swelling or shrinking. Experimental studies have observed a variety of instability patterns in hydrogels.

Multilayer Density Analysis of Cellulose Thin Films
An approach for the multilayer density analysis of polysaccharide thin films at the example of cellulose is presented. In detail, a model was developed for the evaluation of the density in different layers across the thickness direction of the film.

Swelling kinetics and impregnation of PLA with thymol under supercritical CO2 conditions [PDF]
The present work was aimed to study swelling kinetics of polylactic acid (PLA) and its impregnation with thymol in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) medium. The influences of temperature and soaking time on the swelling kinetics and impregnation yield

If a helical network of fibers is embedded in a swellable matrix, and if the fibers themselves resist swelling, then a change in the amount of swelling agent will cause a corresponding twisting motion in the material.

Swelling-Induced Fragmentation and Polymer Leakage of Nanoplastics in Seawater
Nanoplastics (NPs) have been successively detected in different environmental matrixes and have aroused great concern worldwide. However, the fate of NPs in real environments such as seawater remains unclear, impeding their environmental risk assessment.
