Generating the Swept Area of a Body Undergoing Planar Motion

Journal of Mechanical Design, 1991
The swept area of a two-dimensional object undergoing motion in its plane of definition is the union of the area occupied by the object at all positions during the motion. A methodology for determining a close approximation to an exact swept area of a convex object with a known arbitrary motion is developed here.

The study of a swept electron beam in order to apply Boag's theory for calculation of the collection efficiency: I. Beam and swept area characteristics

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1986
The characteristics of swept electron beams produced by Sagittaire or Saturne type accelerators were investigated by film dosimetry. Beam sections perpendicular to the beam limiting system (BLS) axis are fully described by Gaussian curves close to the centre of the field defined by the BLS, but they become more and more distorted as the elementary beam

Low-Boom Design for Supersonic Transport with Canard and Forward-Swept Wings Using Equivalent Area Design Method

open access: yesAerospace, 2023
Forward-swept wings can be expected to be lower-boom planforms with similar amount of drag as backward-swept wings because of their good lift distributions.

Real-time SPR imaging based on a large area beam from a wavelength-swept laser

Optics Letters, 2018
We demonstrate a real-time surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRi) system based on a wavelength-swept laser. Compared to conventional spectral-modulation SPRi using white light source and spectral filtering, the proposed system has a higher scan rate to detect rapid changes in refractive index and a higher output power for large-area illumination ...

Nonperfusion Area and Other Vascular Metrics by Wider Field Swept-Source OCT Angiography as Biomarkers of Diabetic Retinopathy Severity

open access: yesOphthalmology Science, 2022
Purpose To study the wider field (WF) swept-source OCT angiography (SS-OCTA) metrics, especially the nonperfusion area (NPA), in the diagnosing and staging of diabetic retinopathy (DR).

Comparison of biomass estimates from multiple stratification approaches in a swept area method for Pacific saury Cololabis saira in the western North Pacific

open access: yesFisheries Science, 2020
Fishery-independent surveys using sea surface trawl nets for Pacific saury Cololabis saira in the western North Pacific since 2003 have enabled the investigation of their annual distribution patterns and total biomass during June and July, prior to the ...

Variability of swept area by sea-surface tows of a neuston net: Balance of resistance, clogging, and over-inflow effects

Fisheries Research, 2019
Variability of swept area by horizontal tows of a neuston net at the sea surface was examined based on a data set of flow-meter revolutions from larval surveys for Pacific saury off the Pacific coast of Japan in winter during 2003 to 2016 (total of 1566 ...
