Effects of Taper on Swim Performance
Sports Medicine, 1994Competitive swimmers commonly focus upon optimising performance at a single competition. A period where training volume is incrementally reduced or "tapered" often precedes such a competition. The use of taper is justified as increases in muscular power, and the restoration of plasma haematocrit, haemoglobin and creatine kinase are evident with this ...

Swimming Performance of a Tensegrity Robotic Fish
Soft Robotics, 2019We described a tensegrity robotic fish and detailed its overall structure, stiffness, and mechatronics. The main flexible structure of the robotic fish body was composed with a series of rigid segments linked with tensegrity joints by means of tension elements.

ACTN3 Genotype and Swimming Performance in Taiwan
International Journal of Sports Medicine, 2011Studies have shown that the 577R allele of α-actinin-3 (ACTN3) is more prevalent in sprint athletes than in the general population or in endurance athletes. We examined the distribution of ACTN3 R577X (rs 1815739) genotypes and alleles in the Taiwanese general population (603) and in elite sprint swimmers who had participated in international/national ...

Performance characteristics of Paralympic swimming
2008Margins of victory in elite swimming competitions are often small and are influenced by the performance characteristics of the athlete. The Paralympic Games is the highest level of competition for elite swimmers with a disability. The key performance characteristics of these athletes depend on training and technique, yet these have not been wholly ...

Assessment of Swimming Performance of Preschool Children
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1978The purpose of this research was to establish the validity and reliability of a swimming scale designed for children, ages 2 to 6 yr. Subjects ( N = 57) were tested on nine categories of tasks. These tasks were selected from the skills traditionally included within the motor domain of swimming; therefore, the scale is assumed to be valid.

[Swimming performance in the aged].
Zeitschrift fur Gerontologie, 1987The deterioration of performance caused by aging was examined in 3,469 swimmers divided into 9 age groups and 4 styles of swimming. Comparisons using cross and longitudinal sections show that older swimmers become progressively slower, and the reduction of speed in all styles of swimming follows a quadratic trend. The losses of efficiency increase with
