Effects of black soldier fly larvae as protein or fat sources on apparent nutrient digestibility, fecal microbiota, and metabolic profiles in beagle dogs

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae (BSFL) act as a biological system converting organic waste into protein and fat with great potential application as pet food.

Environmentally superior technologies for swine waste management

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2004
The high nitrogen content of animal waste provides opportunities for processing to marketable byproducts and challenges for proper management to avoid harmful impacts. Technologies are being developed to conserve and utilize nitrogen as well as other valuable constituents in animal waste.

Microbiological aspects of aerobic thermophilic treatment of swine waste [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1990
A thermophilic strain (D2) identified as a Bacillus sp. was isolated from an aerobic digestor of swine waste after several months of operation at 55 degrees C. Aerobic thermophilic batch treatment of swine waste inoculated with strain D2 was studied in a 4-liter fixed-bed reactor.

Antimicrobial Use and Resistance in Swine Waste Treatment Systems [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2006
ABSTRACT Chlortetracycline and the macrolide tylosin were identified as commonly used antimicrobials for growth promotion and prophylaxis in swine production. Resistance to these antimicrobials was measured throughout the waste treatment processes at five swine farms by culture-based and molecular methods.

Metagenomics Analysis of the Impact of Protein-Degrading Functional Microbial Agents on Composting of Chicken Manure from Cereal Hulls

open access: yesAgronomy
In this study, four highly efficient protein-degrading bacteria (Siccibactercolletis, Bacillus thuringiensis, Bacillus cereus, and Bacillus sp. (in: Firmicutes)) were screened from soil and fermentation beds and prepared into a mixed microbial agent in a
