Bimetallic (NiFe) and Trimetallic (NiFeCr) Nanoalloys from Metal Oxides Using a Microwave Hydrogen Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bimetallic (NiFe) and trimetallic (NiFeCr) nanoalloys (NAs) are synthesized using corresponding oxide mixtures using microwave hydrogen plasma within a few milliseconds. The process simultaneously 1) reduces metal oxides to metals; 2) downsizes the particles from micrometers to nanometers; and 3) blends the metals to form NAs.

Experimental and Theoretical Study on Spray Angles of Bi-Swirl Coaxial Injectors

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2018
An experimental and theoretical study was undertaken to investigate the effects of the recess length, swirl direction, and mixture ratio on the spray angles of the bi-swirl coaxial injectors with the inner, closed-type and outer, open-type swirl ...

Analytical and experimental investigation of flow fields of annular jets with and without swirling flow [PDF]

open access: yes
Analytical and experimental studies were performed to define the flowfield of annular jets, with and, without swirling flow. The analytical model treated configurations with variations of flow angularities, radius ratio, and swirl distributions.

Experimental Assessment of ‘subgrid’ scale Probability Density Function Models for Large Eddy Simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Filtered density functions (FDFs) of mixture fraction are quantified by analyzing experimental data obtained from two-dimensional planar laser-induced fluorescence scalar measurements in the isothermal swirling flow of a combustor operating at a ...

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Simulation of the Internal Flow of the High-Pressure Swirl Injector

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2009
The simulation of the internal flow of a kind of high-pressure swirl injector was carried out with multiphase and cavitation models basing on the movement mesh. The spray was also simulated with the result of the internal flow simulation.

Swirl Generation and Recirculation Using Radial Swirl Vanes [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 3A: General, 1993
The concept of the Swirl Number and its effect on recirculation is reviewed and problems with it are identified. Swirl generation through the use of radial inlet swirl vanes is then studied. The effect of vane and swirl cup design on recirculation is then evaluated using finite element computer modeling and verified using tufting tests.

Sustainable Synthesis of Bio‐Based Magnetic and Conductive Wood for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A wood‐based magnetic and conductive material called Magwood (MW), capable of blocking almost 99.99% of electromagnetic waves (in the X‐band frequency range), is synthesized using a simple, solvent‐free process. MW is lightweight, resists water, and is flame‐retardant, making it a promising alternative for shielding electronics. The rapid proliferation

Lateral jet injection into typical combustor flowfields [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
The trajectory, penetration and mixing efficiency of lateral air jet injection into typical combustor flowfields in the absence of combustion were investigated so as to characterize the time-mean and turbulence flowfield for a variety of configurations ...
