A RANS-LES Study of Swirling and Non-Swirling Jets
45th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2007Studying swirling turbulent jet flows is important for both application-driven reasons and increasing our fundamental understanding of turbulence. Although experimental and numerical studies of swirling jet flows provided some insights into the processes causing the mixing enhancement of momentum and scalars, a definite understanding is still not ...

Application of Identification Method of Swirling Motion by Swirl Function
12th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering, Volume 2, 2004A method of identification and estimation of swirling motion in complicated flow and its application are presented. Classification of flow can be performed with velocity gradient tensor and its eigenvalue, and complex eigenvalue indicates that flow is swirling motion.

Fluid Dynamics, 1979
An exact solution to the Navier-Stokes equations is found for a jet emanating from the end of a vortex filament into a region filled with a fluid. Depending on the degree of swirling of the jet, a closed or open flow regime is realized. In the case of strong swirling, the solution is not unique.

Intermittency and swirl dynamics of turbulent swirling flames
2011Swirl effects on velocity and mixture fraction intermittency have been analysed for turbulent methane flames using LES. Probability density function (pdf) distributions demonstrate a Gaussian shape closer to the centreline region of the flame and a delta function at the far radial position.
