A RANS-LES Study of Swirling and Non-Swirling Jets

45th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2007
Studying swirling turbulent jet flows is important for both application-driven reasons and increasing our fundamental understanding of turbulence. Although experimental and numerical studies of swirling jet flows provided some insights into the processes causing the mixing enhancement of momentum and scalars, a definite understanding is still not ...

Linearized Swirling Wakes

The Physics of Fluids, 1962
Exact similar and nonsimilar solutions for axisymmetric wakes with small swirl in a constant-property medium are derived. Emphasis is placed on the similar solutions, particularly those associated with the swirl. A unique similar solution for the axial velocity is distinguished from a possible infinite set by invoking the auxiliary condition of ...

Application of Identification Method of Swirling Motion by Swirl Function

12th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering, Volume 2, 2004
A method of identification and estimation of swirling motion in complicated flow and its application are presented. Classification of flow can be performed with velocity gradient tensor and its eigenvalue, and complex eigenvalue indicates that flow is swirling motion.
