Viscous flow in a swirl atomizer
Chemical Engineering Science, 1993Abstract In this paper a numerical analysis is carried out of the velocity field throughout a swirl spray nozzle and more specially at the orifice. After an examination of the parameters involved in the problem, it is found that the characteristics of the conical liquid sheet produced at the nozzle's orifice are mainly functions of the geometry of ...

Calculation of confined swirling flows
23rd Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1985Swirling jets are an important constituent flow of many types of combustion equipment. Flame size, shape, stability and combustion intensity are all favorably influenced by swirling some portion of the incoming air with the fuel. Fluid dynamics computer codes are being developed for the mathematical simulation of flows in practical combustors.

SWIRLING FLOWS OF VISCOELASTIC FLUIDS
Computers & Structures, 1988Few problems in Newtonian fluid mechanics can match the attention which has been given to the study of the flow of a Newtonian fluid between two parallel plates rotating about a common axis. Most of these analyses are based on the similarity transformation of Kármán to study axisymmetric solutions. Recently, \textit{S. V.

Magnetohydrodynamics in turbulent swirling flow
1998We report an experimental study of the magnetic field fluctuations generated in a turbulent flow of liquid gallium, in the presence of an externally applied field. We consider the case of a weak‘seed’ field \({\vec B_0}\), so that the Lorentz forces do not modify the flow [1].

Tests in a combustion centrifuge demonstrated that the normal progression from laminar flamespeeds of about 0.3 m/s (in hydrocarbon-air mixtures) to turbulent flamespeeds of up to 6.1 m/s can be advanced to a third stage, where flamespeeds in excess of 19 m/s were measured.

On the Stability of Compressible Swirling Flow
Studies in Applied Mathematics, 1973The linear stability to axisymmetric perturbations of compressible non‐dissipative swirling flow is shown to be insured if a suitably defined “Richardson number” depending on the basic velocity, temperature and density fields everywhere exceeds 1/4. This result combines and generalizes in a natural way some known results for incompressible swirling ...

1. With an increase of the flow velocity v from 7.58 to 14.67 m/sec and change of k/kcr in the interval of the most erosion-active values from 0.75 to 0.39, Eph increases proportionally to v5, although Ef increases proportionally to v3. This indicates that in the presence of general erosion activity of the cavitation regime of the flow, a small ...

The physics of the flow interaction between swirl and secondary flow was studied in duct bends relevant to the design of advanced aircraft nozzle systems. Both laminar and turbulent subsonic flows were investigated in generic duct bends for different amounts of swirl.

Abstract The problem of the decay of a rotationally symmetric steady swirl superimposed on Poiseuille flow in a round pipe was investigated theoretically and experimentally. The object was to determine the degree to which the rate of decay of the swirl as predicted by a linearized theory agreed with measured rates of decay at flow ...
