Dynamic Characteristics of Open-Type Swirl Injector with Varying Geometry
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 2015Combustion instabilities in a liquid rocket engine are generated by coupling between the heat release oscillations and the acoustic pressure oscillations in the combustion chamber. These instabilities from the combustion chamber can affect the injector and the feed line, which are in front of the combustion chamber.

A simplified design methodology for coaxial swirl injector
33rd Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 1997Gas-liquid coaxial swirl injectors are widely used in advanced hydrogen/oxygen rocket engines and hydrogen/oxygen/hydrocarbon tripropellant engines. The design quality of injector is very important to the performance, stability, reliability and life-span of the liquid rocket engine. A simplified flowrate characteristics based methodology for the design

ATOMIZATION OF GELLED PROPELLANTS FROM SWIRL INJECTORS WITH LEAF SPRING IN SWIRL CHAMBER
Atomization and Sprays, 2011Gelled propellants behave as non-Newtonian fluids and are promising for future aerospace application because they combine the advantages of solid propellants with those of liquid propellants. Spray formation of gelled propellants from swirl injectors in which a leaf spring was installed was described by carrying out experiments in a spray test facility

Single element injector cold flow testing for STME swirl coaxial injector element design
29th Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 1993An oxidizer-swirled coaxial element injector is being investigated for application in the Space Transportation Main Engine (STME). Single element cold flow experiments were conducted to provide characterization of the STME injector element for future analysis, design, and optimization.

Experimental study on combustion stability characteristics of non-swirl and swirl coaxial injectors
34th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 1998To clarify the difference of combustion stability characteristics between conventional coaxial injectors and swirl-coaxial injectors, an experimental study with liquid oxygen (LOX) /hydrogen and LOX/methane propellants was conducted using thrust chambers with nominal thrusts of 7 and 14 kN at chamber pressures from 2.3 to 10 MPa. Stability rating tests

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2005
Abstract A new approach for low emission gas turbines was investigated by modifying a typical production high-swirl injector (HSI) for gas turbine combustors to operate in a novel low-swirl mode (LSI). This LSI (S = 0.5) was configured in the laboratory and investigated by particle image velocimetry at firing rates of 9–87 kW ...

Spray characteristics of gel propellants in an open-end swirl injector
Fuel, 2019Abstract Gel propellants have both liquid and solid characteristics, giving them a broad array of application possibilities; because they are a type of power law fluid, high viscosity and difficulty in atomization have restricted their application in the aerospace field.

Swirl Coaxial Injector Development. Part I: Test Results
2002Abstract : Injector design is crucial to obtain long life and provide high energy release efficiency in the main combustion chamber. Introducing a swirl component in the injector flow can enhance the propellant mixing and thus improve engine performance.

Evolution of a high-pressure spray from a swirled gasoline injector
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2001<div class="htmlview paragraph">An extensive experimental work has been made in order to analyze the structure of the spray of a large-angle single-hole high-pressure swirl injector for direct-injection spark-ignited (DISI) gasoline engines. Spatial and temporal evolution measurements of the spray have been carried out in an optically accessible ...
