Spray characteristics of plug type swirl injector

2018 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET), 2018
Atomization of liquids is a complicated process. It is a common phenomenon in many industries such as aerospace, automotive, manufacturing (spray drying) and mineral processing. In swirl injectors, swirling motion is spread to the fluid due to the effect of the centrifugal force to spread out in the form of a hollow cone liquid sheet as the fluid ...

Modulation of the Spray Jet of a Swirl Injector

2019
This document describes several mechanisms for modulating the geometry of the spray sheet emanating from the exit nozzle of a liquid swirl injector. In general a highly uniform spray sheet is desired, but in some circumstances the ability to have an intentionally non uniform spray sheet is advantageous.

Spray characteristics of gelled propellants in swirl injectors

Fuel, 2012
Gelled propellants behave as non-Newtonian fluids and are promising for future aerospace application because they combine the advantages of solid propellants with those of liquid propellants. Spray formation of gel simulants from swirl injectors was described by carrying out experiments in a spray test facility.

Nonlinear Modeling of Classical Swirl Injector Dynamics

45th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2009
*† In this work the authors first present the theoretical equations governing the angular momentum propagation through the injector. Based on these considerations, an existing boundary element method (BEM) code that models swirl injector dynamics was modified to incorporate the new inflow and vorticity wave treatments.

Evolution of a high-pressure spray from a swirled gasoline injector

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2001
<div class="htmlview paragraph">An extensive experimental work has been made in order to analyze the structure of the spray of a large-angle single-hole high-pressure swirl injector for direct-injection spark-ignited (DISI) gasoline engines. Spatial and temporal evolution measurements of the spray have been carried out in an optically accessible ...

Vortex Breakdown in Swirling Fuel Injector Flows

Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 2007
It is well known that the process of vortex breakdown plays an important role in establishing the near-field aerodynamic characteristics of fuel injectors, influencing fuel/air mixing and flame stability. The precise nature of the vortex breakdown can take on several forms, which have been shown in previous papers to include both a precessing vortex ...

Transient Flows in High Pressure Swirl Injectors

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1998
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Gasoline direct injection requires that the injection time may be very short in duration, indicating that transient flow effects can have a strong influence on the flow behavior and on the spray properties. Consequently, a computational analysis of the dynamic flow in a high pressure swirl injector was conducted ...

Unsteady Chemiluminescence Imaging of a Swirl Coaxial Injector

45th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference &amp; Exhibit, 2009
This research tested a swirl-coaxial injector, originally designed to use liquid oxygen and liquid methane, using gaseous oxygen and gaseous methane under scaled mass flow rates in an atmospheric resonance chamber made of fused silica for CH* chemiluminescence imaging and contained ports for high-frequency pressure measurements.

Combustion Instability with a Single-Element Swirl Injector

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 2007
A single injector element liquid rocket combustion experiment was designed and conducted to investigate the combustion dynamics of a gas-centered, liquid-swirled coaxial injector element. The oxidizer was a mixture of superheated water and oxygen, and kerosene was used as the fuel. The mean chamber pressure ranged from 2.14 to 2.38 MPa.
