In order to improve the inclusion removal property of the tundish, the mathematic model for simulation of the flow field sourced from inner-swirl-type turbulence controller (ISTTC) was developed, in which there were six blades arranged with an eccentric ...

A new photobioreactor for continuous microalgal production in hatcheries based on external-loop airlift and swirling flow [PDF]
This study deals with the scale of a new photobioreactor for continuous microalgal production in hatcheries. The combination of the state-of-art with the constraints inherent to hatcheries has turned the design into a closed, artificially illuminated ...

Combustion in swirling flows: A review
Melting and burning of suspended alkane droplets are studied experimentally under electric field. It is found that the melting rate substantially decreases if electric field strength exceeds some critical value. It is about 60 kV/m under our experimental conditions.

Rotational energy as a measure of flow swirl intensity [PDF]
The paper proposes a criterion for estimating the intensity of swirling flow using Mach number for the rotational component of velocity. The drop in the maximum value of the criterion in the case of jet propagation in a pipe and in the case of mixing in ...

Stochastic Chaos in a Turbulent Swirling Flow [PDF]
We report the experimental evidence of the existence of a random attractor in a fully developed turbulent swirling flow. By defining a global observable which tracks the asymmetry in the flux of angular momentum imparted to the flow, we can first reconstruct the associated turbulent attractor and then follow its route towards chaos.

PIV of swirling flow in a conical pipe with vibrating wall
Swirling flows in conical pipe can be found in a number of industrial processes, such as hydrocylone, separator and rotating machinery. It has been found that wall oscillations can reduce the drag in water channel and pipe flows, but there is no study of

Bubble elimination by swirl flow.
The performance of a newly developed bubble elimination system is analyzed. The system consists of a circular body for a swirled flow supplied tangentially, equiped with a throttle valve downward and a valve for discharging bubbles upward.A strong swirl superimposed on an averaged laminar flow during the initial state is found to decay exponentially ...

Comparison of VLES and LES Turbulence Modeling for Swirling Turbulent Flow
Swirling flow has been widely used in gas turbine and aero-engine combustor to stabilize the flame. However, accurate numerical prediction of the swirling turbulent flow is difficult due to complex vortex movement in the flow, and turbulence modeling is ...

In this paper the static pressure field of an annular swirling jet is measured indirectly using stereo-PIV measurements. The pressure field is obtained from numerically solving the Poisson equation, taken into account the axisymmetry of the flow.

Single string cavitation and swirling flow in a nozzle and a hollow-cone spray
Single string cavitation (SC) and a swirling flow around it may occur in a fuel injector of diesel engines at the moment of low needle lift, if the tip of the needle valve is close to the nozzle entrance.
