Comparative Experimental Efficiency of Solar Water Heating Systems With Enhanced Thermal Performance: A Review

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This review presents a comparative analysis of experimental studies aimed at improving the thermal efficiency of solar water heating (SWH) systems. Various enhancement techniques, including nanofluids, phase change materials, optimized collector designs, and hybrid photovoltaic–thermal systems, are evaluated based on their impact on system performance ...

Investigations in an external-loop airlift photobioreactor with annular light chambers and swirling flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Photosynthetic microorganisms could serve as valuable compounds, but also for environmental applications. Their production under controlled conditions implies to design specific reactors, named photobioreactors, in which light supply is the main ...

Comparative Performance Analysis of Various Flat Plate Solar Collectors Incorporating Spiral and Square Arrangement of Circular Type Riser Tube

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Three flat‐plate collectors with spiral and square coiled riser tubes were tested and it was found that the spiral type provides the best results with a thermal efficiency of 66.98% for a mass flow rate of 0.4 kg/min. Riser tube geometry is a key factor in optimizing flat‐plate collector output.

The Effect of Swirling Air-to-Liquid Momentum Ratio on the Spray and Droplet Characteristics

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2020
The effect of swirl flow on the spray characteristics (structure, droplet diameter and droplet velocity) is experimentally investigated for varying air-to-liquid momentum ratios in this work.

Effects of swirling flow on ultralight particle dispersion characteristics in coaxial jet combustor

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2019
The dispersion characteristics of ultralight particle (expanded graphite) in swirling mixture particle‐laden coaxial jet combustor was modeled and numerically predicted using developed second‐order moment gas‐particle multifluid turbulent model.

Numerical Study of Vortex Structure in the Shear Layer between Swirling Backflow and Axial Main Flow

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2007
The present paper treats the backflow vortex structure observed at the turbomachinery inlet at reduced flow rate. It is caused by the roll-up of the shear layer between swirling backflow and axial main flow.

Atomization of water jets and sheets in axial and swirling airflows [PDF]

open access: yes
Axial and swirling airflows were used to break up water jets and sheets into sprays of droplets to determine the overall effects of orifice diameter, weight flow of air, and the use of an air swirler on fineness of atomization as characterized by mean ...

Lactation, Childrearing, and Gender Justice

open access: yesJournal of Applied Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this article, I discuss the significance of early infant feeding choices for the goal of gender justice. Focusing on human lactation practices, I identify Exclusive Gestational Nursing (EGN) as the norm in advanced industrial societies, which creates the expectation and permission for gestators, and only gestators, to nurse children, and ...
