Fundamental frequency and perceived prominence of accented syllables. II. Nonfinal accents
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1994An experiment is described addressing the question of whether two accented syllables in a phrase should have equal pitch maxima in order to be perceived as equally prominent, or whether the second accented syllable should have lower pitch. Syllable frequency effect in speech production: evidence from aphasia
Journal of Neurolinguistics, 2005Abstract In this study, we investigated whether a syllable frequency effect can be observed in aphasic speakers with a phonological encoding impairment. First of all, we analysed the substitution errors from seven aphasic subjects comparing the frequency of the target syllable to the frequency of the produced syllable.

Frequency and Percent Frequency Distribution of Phonetic Symbols (PS) and PS-Syllables
1979As described in Chapter 1, all Mandarin syllables can be represented by phonetic symbols (abbreviated as PS). The number of PS which make up a syllable varies from one to three. As expected in every language, some PS occur more often than others. The same can be said about the joint occurrences of these PS in syllables.
