Adult Blow Flies Host Diverse Carrion‐Associated Microbiomes

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Zoology, Volume 53, Issue 3, September 2026.
Blow flies (Diptera: Calliphoridae) perform important yet often overlooked roles in ecosystems as decomposers, pollinators and vectors of disease. Central to these functions are their associations with microbial communities, which are maintained through close contact with diverse microbe‐rich substrates such as carrion, dung and flowers.

Speciation with gene flow

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 5, Page 1476-1499, September 2026.
Biodiversity is threatened by human activities, with extinction debt accumulating rapidly. Many of these activities change the connectivity of populations, fragmenting existing population systems or bringing previously isolated populations or species into contact.

Crop genotypic richness enhances biomass production and phosphorus acquisition in maize‐mycorrhiza symbiosis

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 5, Page 1702-1714, September 2026.
Our study tests how soil and plant biodiversity can enhance sustainability of crop production in Kenya. We tested whether mixtures of maize varieties performed better than monocultures and tested their response to arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. Mycorrhizal responsiveness differed significantly by maize variety, and genetic mixtures outperformed ...

Squash silverleaf disorder and whitefly (Bemisia tabaci MEAM1) infestation: Implications for plant disease management in a changing climate

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 189, Issue 2, September 2026.
Squash Silverleaf Disorder (SLD) is growing in its economic impact due to the invasive behaviour of the silverleaf whitefly (Bemisia tabaci MEAM1). In this review we summarize what is currently known about the whitefly‐squash interaction, how both the disease and the whitefly are being affected by climate change, and discuss current and novel ...

Diversity of the Microbiomes in the Larval and Adult Stages of the European Cherry Fruit Fly (Rhagoletis cerasi) and Identification of Potential Biocontrol Candidate Taxa

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 9, Page 999-1010, September 2026.
First comprehensive characterization of the R. cerasi microbiome is reported. Stage‐specific variations in microbial composition are documented. Multiple bacterial entomopathogen taxa are identified as potential biocontrol candidates for R. cerasi.
