NFDI MatWerk Ontology (MWO): A BFO‐Compliant Ontology for Research Data Management in Materials Science and Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the NFDI‐MatWerk Ontology (MWO), a Basic Formal Ontology‐based framework for interoperable research data management in materials science and engineering (MSE). Covering consortium structures, research data management resources, services, and instruments, MWO enables semantic integration, Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and ...

The symbolism of place: a geography of relationships between space, power and identity

open access: yesCybergeo, 2011
The relationship between space, power and identity are necessarily mediated by symbols. A symbol is a concrete reality (a building, a statue, a coin, etc.) that communicates something intangible (an idea, a value, a feeling): consequently, a place of ...

Semantic Ambiguities and Classification Struggles in the Post-Socialist Informal Medical Economy

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Babes-Bolyai Sociologia, 2021
In this paper I will engage in a process of highlighting the way in which liberal and, later, neoliberal political agendas regulate and establish formal semantic registers in the field of medical informal economy within the Romanian public healthcare ...

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Drive System Inverter Modeling Using Symbolic Regression

open access: yes, 2023
For accurate and efficient control performance of electrical drives, precise values of phase voltages are required. In order to achieve control of the electric drive, the development of mathematical models of the system and its parts is often approached.

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

When Politics and Religion Fuse: The Nature and Implications of the Meskel Square Controversy in the Ethiopian Media

open access: yesReligions
Using space as a conceptual framework, this paper analyzes the nature of a controversy that arose in Ethiopia when the government and three religious groups—the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC), Protestants and Muslims—clashed over claims to ...

South–South symbolic transnationalism: echoing the performance ‘A Rapist in Your Path’ in Latin America

open access: yes, 2021
Studies on transnational social movements rarely acknowledge mobilising that is not polity-centred and that does not target policy change. This article draws attention to rising forms of transnational feminist movements in Latin America that ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.
