Bounding symbolic powers via asymptotic multiplier ideals
We revisit a bound on symbolic powers found by Ein-Lazarsfeld-Smith and subsequently improved by Takagi-Yoshida. We show that the original argument of [6] actually gives the same improvement.

Symbolic powers of edge ideals
Given a (finite simple) graph \(G\) with vertex set \(\{X_1,\dots, X_n\}\), a set of indeterminates generating the polynomial ring \(R= k[X_1,\dots, X_r]\), the ideal \(I(G)= (\{X_iX_j|\, X_i\) adjacent to \(X_j\})\) and the ring \(R/I(G)\) becomes of interest in the setting of commutative algebra/algebraic geometry as well as graph theory, since it is

Pouvoirs symboliques des États : souveraineté, territoire, empire
Despite (or perhaps because of) growing recognition of empire’s problematic definition, scholarly interest in the subject has recently revived. Newly opened perspectives notably take in the diverse symbolic powers underpinning state rule : forms of ...

The Receptacle for all that is Monstrous and Vile: The Island Asylum in Scorsese’s Shutter Island
In Shutter Island (Scorsese, 2010), the gothic mental asylum metonymises the symbolic powers of madness. The asylum’s position on an isolated island encodes a dichotomy between nature and culture homologous to the film’s depiction of madness and ...

Some results about ideals satisfying the condition Cn
We introduce, in this paper, a condition Cn that can be viewed as a generalization of the conditions C2 investigated recently by the present authors in [1,2,9,10].

The Curse and the Chora: The Double-Bind of the Choraic Conduit in Angel and Penny Dreadful
Referring to the work of Julia Kristeva, this article seeks to perform a comparative analysis between Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter), as she appears within the remit of Joss Whedon and David Greenwalts’s Angel (1999–2004), and Vanessa Ives (Eva ...

On the Stanley Depth of Powers of Monomial Ideals
In 1982, Stanley predicted a combinatorial upper bound for the depth of any finitely generated multigraded module over a polynomial ring. The predicted invariant is now called the Stanley depth. Duval et al.

Noetherian operators, primary submodules and symbolic powers
We give an algebraic and self-contained proof of the existence of the so-calledNoetherian operatorsfor primary submodules over general classes of Noetherian commutative rings.
