Morphological Theory and Synchronic Variation

2018
This chapter deals with morphological variation in synchronic terms. Variation is treated as a phenomenon triggered by principally language-internal causes, although it may often result from the interference of language external factors, such as contact with another language.

Synchronic Variation and Grammatical Change

2013
Previous research on Dutch gender reveals that nowadays pronoun usage mainly depends on different conceptualizations of the referent, rather than relying on grammatical principles. The same seems to account also for gender fluctuations at the nominal level (double gender nouns), a marginal phenomenon commonly reduced to the issue of geographical ...

Grammaticization, Synchronic Variation, and Language Contact

2000
This study of Old Spanish and present-day Mexico and New Mexico data develops a grammaticization account of variation in progressive constructions. Diachronic changes in cooccurrence patterns show that grammaticization involves reductive change driven by frequency increases.

Reducing expressive variation in speech with synchronous speech

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2001
Any two utterances of the same word (or other unit) will differ. The variation arises from the summation of both linguistic and nonlinguistic factors. A major problem in studying prosody has been deciding what are the linguistic, and what are the nonlinguistic factors which collectively influence a measured quantity such as duration or pitch excursion.

Synchronous Reference Frame PLL Frequency Estimation under Voltage Variations

2019 IEEE 15th Brazilian Power Electronics Conference and 5th IEEE Southern Power Electronics Conference (COBEP/SPEC), 2019
In this paper, MIMO space state models that represent the voltage influence in the SRF-PLL over its frequency estimations is obtained. Throughout the model development, two estimation alternatives were explored. The model accuracy was verified by simulations of the linear models and then compared with the nonlinear models.

Chaotic parameter variation in maps: pseudoperiodicity, crisis and synchronization

Physics Letters A, 1994
Abstract We show that chaotically driving identical multiple period systems with a chaotic system can cause them to remain synchronized. That is the basins of attraction merge. We show this for the logistic map and relate it to other work in chaotic and quasiperiodic driving of nonlinear systems.

Delay variation tolerant clock scheduling for semi-synchronous circuits

Asia-Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems, 2003
In semi-synchronous framework, the clock is assumed to be distributed periodically to each individual register though not necessarily to all registers simultaneously. It seemed that the effect of delay variation caused by manufacturing and environment variations is more serious than that in a conventional synchronous framework. In this paper, we show a

Synchronous and Asynchronous NoC Design Under High Process Variation

2015
PV is inevitable in semiconductor manufacturing processes and it reflects on power consumption, performance, and reliability of the circuit. The main focus of this chapter is to demonstrate the impact of PV on NoCs for different topologies. Moreover, synchronous and asynchronous routers are built to determine the delay, throughput, and leakage power ...
