In this chapter, synchronization of a network into groups with distinct behavior is discussed. Both networks with heterogeneous units and networks with identical node dynamics are considered, and the peculiarities of this form of synchronization in the two cases are illustrated.

Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, 2013
Most published concurrent data structures which avoid locking do not provide any fairness guarantees. That is, they allow processes to access a data structure and complete their operations arbitrarily many times before some other trying process can complete a single operation. Such a behavior can be prevented by enforcing fairness.

In this chapter, we discuss the most studied form of synchronization in a network, where all the units asymptotically converge toward the same trajectory. After describing the phenomenon and the measures to characterize it, we illustrate the methods for the study of the stability and present some results on how to control it.

Partial Phase Synchronization for Multivariate Synchronizing Systems
Physical Review Letters, 2006Graphical models applying partial coherence to multivariate time series are a powerful tool to distinguish direct and indirect interdependencies in multivariate linear systems. We carry over the concept of graphical models and partialization analysis to phase signals of nonlinear synchronizing systems.

The OR-join is one of the three synchronization constructs supported in YAWL and the only one that depends on non-local semantics, that is, not only the current state but also possible future states need to be considered. The other two synchronization constructs are the XOR-join and the AND-join.

An Adaptive Control Strategy for Virtual Synchronous Generator
IEEE transactions on industry applications, 2018The adoption of the virtual synchronous generator (VSG) has attracted wide attention because of the equivalent operating mechanism as a synchronous generator, providing a feasible scheme for the distributed generation connected to utility grid.

SYNCHRONIZATION THROUGH FILTERING
International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2000We study the synchronization problem in discrete-time via an extended Kalman filter (EKF). That is, synchronization is obtained of transmitter and receiver dynamics in case the receiver is given via an EKF that is driven by a noisy drive signal from a noisy transmitter dynamics.

Generalized synchronization versus phase synchronization
Physical Review E, 2000The relation between generalized synchronization and phase synchronization is investigated. It was claimed that generalized synchronization always leads to phase synchronization, and phase synchronization is a weaker form than generalized synchronization.

Robust Frequency Control of Microgrids Using an Extended Virtual Synchronous Generator
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2018Integration of inverter-interfaced distributed generators (DGs) via microgrids into traditional power systems reduces the total inertia and damping properties, while increasing uncertainty and sensitivity to the fault in the system.
