Software-Defined Virtual Synchronous Condenser

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Power Systems
Synchronous condensers (SCs) play important roles in integrating wind energy into relatively weak power grids. However, the design of SCs usually depends on specific application requirements and may not be adaptive enough to the frequently-changing grid conditions caused by the transition from conventional to renewable power generation.

Understanding the Effects of Conductive Polymer Electrode Coating on Recorded Neural Signals

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Conductive polymer coatings are widely explored to improve the quality of signals recorded with chronically implanted neural electrodes, offering enhanced biocompatibility along with reduced electrode impedance. Combining computational modelling and data from PEDOT:PTS coated and PtIr electrodes in rats, we show that improvements in signal quality with

Intelligent Acousto‐Electrical Metamaterials (IAM) for Sound Source Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Our proposed metamaterial concept enables sound source detection using a single material, in contrast to conventional arrays that require dozens or even hundreds of transducers. We show that the coupled acoustic–vibrational–electrical responses in piezoelectric metamaterials give rise to topology‐governed charge transport, producing distinct voltage ...
