The permanent magnet synchronous motor

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1962
A synchronous motor, constructed by modifying an induction motor by fitting a permanent magnet inside the squirrel-cage rotor, is very useful for drives where synchronous operation is required or where the drop in speed of an induction motor is too great.

Synchronization in perceptual motor integration

International Congress Series, 2007
We studied changes in neural synchronization during the learning and stabilization in a perceptual motor task involving polyrhythmic bimanual force production. Effects of inter-hemispheric synchronization, captured in terms of changes in time-resolved phase synchrony, were clearly related to the stability of motor performance and could be interpreted ...

"Angle Switching'' of synchronous Motors

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1935
Commercial applications of ``angle switching'' of synchronous motors are given especial attention in this paper. ``Angle switching'' refers to a method of starting synchronous motors whereby the time of application of the excitation voltage with respect to the relative angular position of the field poles and the impressed voltage is controlled.

Dynamic Performance Analysis of Permanet Magnet Synchronous Motors Magnet Synchronous Motors

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1984
Unlike conventional synchronous motors, a permanent magnet motor develops considerable break torque during its asynchronous mode of operation. An accurate prediction of the run-up characteristics of these motors is quite important. This paper presents the results of digital computer simulation of the transient performance of P.M.

Complete Synchronous Motor Excitation Characteristics

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1925
Synchronous motor excitation characteristics published hitherto have been incomplete. If theoretically determined, while forming closed loops, some doubt as to their accuracy has been entertained. When determined experimentally, thay have not been complete, in that the so-called unstable portions of the curves have not been obtained, and generally ...

Synchronization of Reluctance Motors

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1981
In most of control and industrial applications, a high degree of rotational stability and uniformity of speed is required. These requirements can be achieved by using reluctance motors. The synchronization process of such motors is of prime importance for these applications. Therefore, a simple and accurate criterion is developed to define this process.

Synchronous motor drives

2019
This chapter deals with the development of model, simulation and hardware implementation of the synchronous motor (SM) drive under various operating conditions. In the modeling of vector-controlled PMSM drive, the complete model of the SM drive system is developed for different types of speed controllers with a view to improving the performance of the ...

Starting Performance of Synchronous Motors

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1927
This paper deals with the theory underlying the starting performance of the salient-pole synchronous motor equipped with damper windings. The theory, while involving some approximations, is accurate enough for practical engineering calculations. Formulas are developed for the starting torque, pull-in torque and inrush.

Output control of synchronous motors

Proceedings of the 37th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat. No.98CH36171), 2002
A dynamic controller is derived for a synchronous motor in the case of angular position tracking, when inertia, friction coefficient, resistant torque and stator resistance are unknown or slowly varying. Moreover, we suppose that the angular velocity is not measured and its numerical evaluation is unsatisfactory. Simulations are presented.

Synchronous motors for ship propulsion

Journal of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1921
SINCE the inception and development of the idea of electric ship propulsion, the question of the possibility of using synchronous motors for such service has often been raised. Such a motor could be designed for unity power factor with a resulting saving in cost, weight, and efficiency, of both motor and generator.
