Investigating Synchrophasor Data Quality issues

2014 Power and Energy Conference at Illinois (PECI), 2014
Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) installed across North America, compute and store synchrophasor data at select locations. However, the efforts to process the synchrophasor data to meet very high operator trust expectations has been challenging. This paper describes Synchrophasor Data Quality (SDQ) Activity, Trustworthy Cyber Infrastructure for the ...

Contingency analysis using synchrophasor measurements

Electric Power Systems Research, 2012
Abstract This paper presents a new algorithm, using phasor measurements, that allows real-time analysis and correction of contingencies in power systems. The focus is specifically on overloaded lines. Contingency indicative phasor limits are investigated using current magnitude and voltage angle.

Synchrophasor Estimation Using Prony's Method

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2013
Prony's method can be used as a dynamic phasor estimator. It can be regarded as the adaptive approximation of its complex exponential signal model to the dynamic phasor of an oscillation over a finite time interval. Equipped with a closed signal model, it is possible to implement it in one cycle.

Synchrophasor-based anti-islanding detection

2013 IEEE Grenoble Conference, 2013
During a loss-of-main or islanding situation, distributed generation units remain feeding a part of the electrical system without connection to the main power system. Although many islanding detection methods have been proposed in literature, and some of them are being used, there is currently no islanding detection technique that meets utilities ...

Synchrophasor Technology in Distribution Systems

2018
Deployment of synchrophasor technology has seen significant growth in the electric power transmission systems in the recent years. The use of synchrophasor technology in distribution systems is, however, in its very early stages. The business case for deployment of synchrophasor systems with high accuracy and large volume of data for distribution ...
